I think this is covered every time this score is mentioned but I can't recall and am too tired to go searching---- Does anyone know approximately how much was missing from the original release?
This is what I posted on June 2018-
I just watched the film again and indeed there's a continuous piece of music in the middle of the film that goes on for around 15 minutes. ( I didn't time it) But it's substantial, especially since the "suite" is very varied thematically from one shot to the next.
It vaguely breaks down as follows:
(1) Little Foot and gang come to a waterfall and a stream leading to a valley (not the Great Valley) with a hammock of green trees, A stampede of Long necks appear and eat the tree leaves.
(2) Little Foot and gang go down to the trees and eat what ever food is left over.
(3) Night time comes and the group sleep together.
(4) They wake up the next morning to the growls of Sharp Tooth. Sharp Tooth attacks and escape.
(5) The gang continues there trek up a mountain to be met with a wasteland of rock and sand.
(6) Little Foot and Cera have a brawl then go their separate ways.
The extra music will be great to have, but the real selling point will be cleaning up the horrendous, muffled sound of the MCA album. Like the original American Tail CD, Land Before Time sounds awful on the MCA disc.

Totally agree. The MCA disc sounds distorted as all hell.

Yes, finally, although Land sounded about 100 million times better than An American Tail.
