My earliest knowledge of Randi started all the way back in his Alice Cooper days.
My most recent news about him (and this is probably already old) was a challenge to prove or debunk the audible differences in audiophile hi-fi cables. It had something to do with Michael Fremer, an audio "expert" who was going to take up the Pro position of the experiment on behalf of some boutique company that manufactured obscenely expensive cables. Randi's position was that it was all snake oil. As I recall, the challenge was dropped by both Fremer and the company.
I love any guy who is a sh*t disturber that fights in the name of logic and common sense.
