Hi all,

I reduced the frequency of our Zoom meetings to fortnightly as it seemed like we were coming out of Lockdown and people would start returning to their normal routines.

However, things seem to be getting worse rather than better and folks are asking me to make the meetings weekly again.

I will!

BUT...

While it is easiest if we meet the same time every single week to avoid confusion, I'm conscious that our current time of 9pm (UK) Sunday evening is:

1. Brutal to people like Amer and Nick, for whom it is late.
2. Limited because us Brits have to be up early on Monday morning.
3. While our Antipodean friends could join, it's 7am Monday for them.

If we did it Friday at 9pm, we can all sleep in on Saturday and get rid of the Monday morning issues, but it would land in the middle of the working day for our American friends.

Saturdays at 9pm seem like a good compromise, but that's when UK people get social and go out.

If we stayed on Sundays but brought the time forward, it would work for most of us but rule our Antipodean friends out completely.

SO... I am going to propose a slightly odd schedule to try and be as inclusive as possible.

Our meetings will NORMALLY be on Sundays at 8pm UK (8pm not 9pm).

But every third week, we will move it to Saturday at 9pm, so we don't exclude our Antipodean friends completely.

I will post registration links soon.

But here's the other thing. I think I need a backup person who can host these meetings on days I myself can't make it or need a break. Is anyone willing to be my backup host?

Cheers

Thanks Stephen,

This really make its more manageable for me in particular. Its easy for Saturday so I can afford to wake up late in the Sunday Morning since its already the next day at 9pm UK time. And I can make an exception for one of the sunday dates which for me starts at Monday 12:00am.

Look forward to the next weekly meet up!

See you there folks!

No good me being Robert Robinson....i'd have too many banned subjects!!

And fines would be issued for any transgression of the rules, as clarified in rule 7, subsection 11b, overleaf.

Does anybody know the Japanese for STAR WARS, so we can talk about it without alerting Bill's spider senses?

Cheers!

What a time to step into this thread.
(stepping into it is right).
ANYWAY--Stephen, you must have had the telepathy going because this morning on my way to work I was thinking about your being there week after week and if we were to go back to the weekly set-up and for whatever reason you were not available, I was thinking why not step into it m'self (here we go again) and give it a whirl at hosting a substitute gathering. Could only drive your ratings up, what's there to lose? roll eyes 'Cept my techno know-how[ard] is likely inadequate but if an iPad can handle it...

A free godzilla CD for anyone in the zoom who can pronounce that without a subtitle appearing underneath saying: "Run for your lives - the monster is crushing everything in its path!!" big grin

Fantastic, Howard. All I need to do is nominate you as an alternate host when I set the meetings up. I'll need your email address for that, which I will have from your prior registration.

Does anyone else also want to be a backup host? It doesn't hurt for us to have two or three.

Cheers

Add the hyphen back at the end of the URL. For some reason it gets dropped when you click on it from here.

Glad to see that we will have some Saturday options, as Sundays are harder for me.

I have registered for these and will attend, assuming they don't coincide with the Cheers meetings, which offer a greater focus on drinking.

Yes, there will no doubt be some collisions here. I prefer Fridays for the "Cheers" meetings, but occasionally they will fall on a Saturday to accomodate people like Michael Scorefan, who works at those hours during the Fridays.

But that's OK. If it happens, it happens. Gives people a choice. We're just the small pub on the corner anyway. Stephen's meetings are the big conventions.
