I read on Facebook that Devreese passed away today, often called the "father of Belgian film music", age 91.
He was unfamiliar to me up untill about a decade ago, when I saw both him and his music performed during one of the World Soundtrack Award editions. I'm not sure if I can recommend anything; it's been many years since that concert, but I do remember several nice tracks, including a famous film waltz(?) of some kind.
Wow! I have that one Marco Polo CD of his film music which I remember being impressed with. Since I never got another CD from him so I never gave him another thought. Time to find that and give it a spin in his honor.
Though not a specialist of his work as MD or Haineshisway, I also enjoyed what I heard so far, especially the Naxos anthology featuring BENVENUTA and other scores. As a tribute, I'm now playing his impressive score to L'OEUVRE AU NOIR, as released by Barclay. Thanks for the music Maestro.
