Yep, if it says Georges Delerue on the packaging, it's worth getting.

Am I given to understand that all of his scores are of such equality that it is impossible to have favorites?

I have only a few. I favor highly SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES because not only does it have his usual sound, it also has the sort of stuff I've never heard him write before.

The London Sessions is the perfect introduction to his music. Some of his finest work is represented in those discs, which exhibit every side of the composer's style.

I'm looking to set some time aside for listening to the Delerue that I have, which I haven't heard in years. I remember really liking The Horseman, Day of the Dolphin, A Walk With Love and Death, and some others. I do have maybe a dozen or so between lp and cd and recently downloaded the 6-cd set from Uni France, so I'm looking forward to re-discovering what I have and checking out some newer things. In general, and my recollection is that my impressions were more favorable to the European films.

Yes, getting a compilation is always a great start if you're new to Delerue. The London Sessions have been mentioned (that's the same 2CD set that is called GREAT COMPOSERS, right?); I also heartily recommend the 6CD box LE CINEMA DE GEORGES DELERUE from Universal for a lot of the early stuff, the New Wave/Truffauts etc. - but also for a great overview. But I got the impression that the topic starter was indeed familiar with Delerue's output, so here are some of my personal favourites that are (mostly) not on the 6CD set: L'INCORRIGIBLE/VA VOIR MAMAN, PAPA TRAVAILLE L'AFRICAIN LE BON PLAISIR LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AGNES OF GOD CRIMES OF THE HEART SIN OF INNOCENCE A SUMMER STORY LA REVOLUTION FRANCAISE A SHOW OF FORCE BLACK ROBE REGARDING HENRY (rejected) STEEL MAGNOLIAS As others have said, it's hard to go wrong with Delerue, but I've personally always had an issue with his dissonant affairs. He's best enjoyed in his trademark lyrical/bittersweet mode. Of course, there will come a time in any recommendation thread where basically all his titles are mentioned, so you're none the wiser!
