I just noticed that The Omega Man 2.0 album is on iTunes. I did not expect that.

Anyway, having bought both CDs, it's always been a tiny irritant that neither one is entirely perfect.

- The first edition is missing some organ overlays, and then while it has the Easter egg at the end, you have to wait through that onerous 30 seconds of silence every time. And it was STILL the best album ever produced up to that time. It changed my life.

- The Omega Man 2.0 CD is musically corrected and would be perfect, but it's missing the Easter egg.

My long-time solution up until today was to have Omega-2.0 tracks 1-17 on my mp3 player, followed by Track 18 of the first edition. So I got the Easter egg, but always with that 30 seconds of silence first.

Today I finally edited the old Track 18 to deliver JUST the Easter egg and that's it, working from a lossless .wav as my authoring file. Then I put all 18 tracks from the second edition on my mp3 player, followed by the Easter egg as Track 19.

So now I have THE OMEGA MAN 3.0, 19 tracks worth, and it is finally perfect. smile

What is the Easter egg?

You can highlight the spoiler shield: It's the children singing "Old MacDonald," with the voice of Ron Grainer himself instructing them on the take.. I love it.

That's the edition I saw as a download for sale on iTunes. It is the 2.0 program, yes.

I was fortunate enough to buy a copy of Omega Man 1.0 when it was originally released, but missed out on 2.0 (you snooze, you lose).

So, this brings up a couple of questions for me:

Is FSM still selling (via SAE) the CD's they do have? Several are listed on the site with the 'Buy' button active.

And, Omega Man 2.0 was an 'unlimited' release, but shows as 'OOP'. I'm guessing here that they just sold what they had, and have not had this reprinted, yes?

I'd originally thought that 2.0 was the same as 1.0, just excluding the 'easter egg', and didn't realize some of the tracks on 2.0 were different (organ overlays), so now would like to track down a copy of 2.0!

Hah! Never mind (as Rosanne Rosannadanna used to say!) - 2.0 is out there on Qobuz, in 16/44 lossless. All set!

Can you go into more detail regarding the differences between 1 and 2? I have 1, and am perfectly happy with it.

Are sonics improved with 2?

Which tracks are affected by the missing organ overlays?

"...but one ¼" tape was not available, containing the organ channel for three cues: 2M3 (“Needling Neville”), 6M2 (“Bad Medicine for Richie”) and 7M3/8M1 (“Zachary Makes His Move”). Maybe some of you noticed."

All is explained here:

The biggest difference between the two editions is that 2.0 adds back a whole cue that was missing, namely Part 2 of "Swinging at Neville's." And the new cue, although unused in the film, is a fantastic piece of music. The first time I played the 2.0 CD, I wasn't expecting any new music. And I wasn't just surprised, I was ecstatic at how good it was.

And as stated above, The Omega Man 2.0 adds back the organ overlays that were missing for three tracks:
- “Needling Neville”
- “Bad Medicine for Richie”
- “Zachary Makes His Move”

So we're getting an accurate presentation of the complete score now.

Regarding sound quality, I think both CDs are excellent, but audiophiles with fine equipment and perfect acoustics are going to prefer 2.0.

Hands down my all-time favorite soundtrack from Film Score Monthly.

The liner notes for the 2.0 release hint at something intriguing about the source for the organ overlays in the 1.0 release.

I don’t even want to explain what we used on the 2000 CD. Get me drunk at a party and I’ll tell you.

Has anyone bought Lukas that drink?
