According to Geoff Leonard's Barry website, a previously unreleased track from The Concert John Barry will be released. There is no indication on what cd it will be released, or what the track is, but the track will most likely be one of the following, which Barry conducted at the corresponding concert:

The Knack
The Lion in Winter
The Persuaders
Zulu
Theme from Romance For Guitar and Orchestra
The Quiller Memorandum
We Have All the Time in the World

I thought that only Zulu and The Lion In Winter had been recorded for possible inclusion on the Concert album, but I could be mistaken on that point.

Of the two, The Lion In Winter would be more interesting as the concert version of Zulu has been recorded on other albums.

Cheers

Stephen, The tracks I listed were not necessarily recorded for the album, but as they were performed at the concert, I assumed that whatever outtake tracks were recorded were taken from something performed live.

And not only has Zulu been done by JB on compilations, The Lion in Winter has never been done by Barry on a compilation in any form resembling what appeared in the movie. I'd be really curious to hear what he would do with The Lion in Winter sans chorus.

Try Silva Screen's CLASSIC JOHN BARRY vol 1

Another interesting question would be on what kind of release this track will be included? "Boom"? "Follow Me"? I think Geoff would have mentioned - which makes me assume that it will be a compilation of previously available Polydor stuff.

That always sounds very strange to me, that recording without chorus.

I do not believe the concert itself was recorded, so I assume whatever they've got is unused material from the studio session.

MR Woolston is correct as usual

I fear Stefan is correct and that this will be another compilation of the Polydor recordings. One can always hope for Boom or Follow Me and be pleasantly surprised should they appear. I agree with Stephen that a "concert" recording of The Lion in Winter would be preferred over Zulu or other titles.

While I appreciate the Universal France Barry releases, one wishes they would have included the original artwork from The Concert and Americans albums and, particularly the liner notes to Americans.
But, on balance, I'm glad we have them and that someone is still working to release archived Barry recordings.
Best,
Stan

Good thought Geoff.
I wonder if another possibility may be that Ecoutez le Cinema has had CD releases of the RPO Filmharmonic Concerts approved? From what I recall, there were at least two rerecorded albums on Polydor, representing the 1970 and 1971 concerts. So, I wonder if the unreleased Barry track could be added to those recordings for an initial CD release?
Either way, exciting possibilities.
Best,
Stan

Has there been any further word on this “Unreleased Track”?

To the best of my knowledge it has only been released on vinyl. I looked into this several months ago and found the track on a compilation album available through Amazon France. The price was much too steep so I didn't get it. I thought eventually this track will be released on CD at a better price. The track is "The Lion in Winter," undoubtedly taken from either the tape of the live 1972 concert with Rozsa or from the corresponding studio session that produced The Concert John Barry album. I would love to hear how Barry handled this track without the chorus. I don't recall the name of the album--just that its name did not trip easily off the tongue.

Yes, apparently both Zulu and The Lion In Winter were recorded as part of the studio session for The Concert John Barry, but not used. This released The Lion In Winter but vinyl only.

Cheers
