Should receive my copy of the 2024 CD re-issue later this week.

No bonus tracks, just a straight reissue. Probably not remastered. Curious to compare it to the expanded reissue from 2003. Ordered the 2024 OHMSS as well.

When I first heard it, I fell in love with it. I thought it was brilliant. But I came to it later than some of the other Bond scores.

You're referring to the new Japanese reissues from Universal Japan, which were issued this week, right?

I'm still waiting for mine, but I'm advised be someone who already has them that they are exact copies in every was of the EMI-Manhattan CDs of the late 1980s and early 1990s, but with an OBI.

The evidence is that this new Japanese edition of Thunderball has the same one-second dropout (a transfer or mastering error) in "The Bomb" that marred the 1988 EMI-Manhattan CD.

Of course, these releases are redundant after the 2003 editions, but, like you I guess, the collector in me just fancied having these Japanese editions. Almost just for the OBI!!

Cheers

I see perfectly well what you mean. Some ten years ago I stumbled upon a mint Japanese LP of The Spy Who Loved Me and while being very far from my favorite 007 scores (actually it's one of the least) I bought it anyway since it looks so cool with the obi! And no, I generally do not buy LPs.

As they are the "Manhattan" issues, probably no need for me to have additional copies of Thunderball, YOLT and Diamonds.

The best Goldfinger covers I've heard in the past few years have all been by jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, both his instrumental versions and vocal ones with Petra Haden (Charlie Haden's daughter!), both studio and live. Highly recommended.

No insult intended, but when people are discussing the old "Thunderball" CD I always have the feeling there are two different masterings: the CD I have - and the CD all others have. The master sounded like crap from the very beginning (I think the LP had the same issues). The suite on the 30TH Anniversary set (even though being mastered by Bob Norberg) is a relavation in comparison - not to mention the 2003 CD. I don't know what went wrong here, but the "Thunderball" LP to me almost is in the same category as "Exodus" and "Lawrence of Arabia." I just don't understand why "From Russia With Love" and "Goldfinger" sound audiophile in comparison - whereas the original "Thunderball" master sounds poor and muffled.
