I'm in the middle of a Harry Potter rewatch, and I came away from the fourth film with an even higher estimation of Doyle's score. I've always liked it, but it's grown on me steadily over the years and really spiked on this viewing. Do you think there's any chance of a complete soundtrack release someday? Would La La Land do it, since they already did the Williams scores? My interest in HP score expansions drops precipitously after this one, but there's some lovely and exciting stuff that's not on the OST.
I think Doyle's work rivals and nearly supercedes William's at times. It's a beautiful epic and anytime one has to follow in those footsteps.....there's a built in aggravation.
I remember the score was barely out of the gate before the hate started. I heard the album early & before the nonsense...on its own terms. It's terrific.
I'm sure LLL has an eye at the least on the post-Williams entries, whether they can happen or not.
A box of the rest of the HPs would be dynamite! Sure to lose buckets of money for our guys! Sadly.....
I would buy expansions of all of the remaining scores. I love how the music changed along with Harry. The first two were pretty innocent, the third was kinda jazzy, and it spiraled from there. I’d love more Harry Potter music.
Sign me up! While I liked the maestro’s scores the best (box set is to die for) the rest are good for different reasons. Love Desplat’s take as well. Wouldn’t hesitate to drop coin for expanded/remastered versions of these.
We need a LLL Box Set "The Harry Potter Films that Johnny Williams didn't compose" to compliment their first Box Set.
Mike Matessino said in an interview (if I understood him correctly) it wouldn't be possible because Warner Music split off from the parent company in the midst of the later Potter films. Makes licensing a single box set virtually impossible. Sadly. I assume the individual scores might still be able to be expanded.
Definitely. Big fan of Doyle’s score which made missing John Williams easier to deal with! Then again I quite enjoy the Nicholas Hooper ones too even if they are a little lightweight. Still can’t get into the Desplat finale despite repeated attempts. There is a quite angry YouTube video about the lack of musical continuity in the Harry Potter films, and it certainly would have been great had more than just the main themes from the first made it beyond those first two movies. Said YouTube video even rails at the lack of continuity with Prisoner of Azkaban which is true even if the score is great on its own terms.
