Do any of their LP or 45 releases come with digital downloads?

Hi, Onya.

I've gotten only 3 LPs thus far with the Four Flies label, but not from the label directly - from Dusty Groove.
No downloads accompanied their purchases, but the content of 1 of the albums is available for download elsewhere for another price. https://us.7digital.com/artist/roberto-nicolosi/release/eye-in-the-labyrinth-original-motion-picture-soundtrack-9417992

I've asked them, at least for a CD version, but no reply...

I've asked them, at least for a CD version, but no reply...

What do you expect from them? Four Flies is a vinyl label - just like Sonor Music - and they don´t produce any CDs. Never did. For quite a few years now they have a solid customer base of about 500 people who are interested in their vinyl releases and that´s profitable for them. This is more than the not even 300 copies which get sold of many old Italian scores by our small European CD labels.

Nicolosi is magnificent composer.
Would be great to have this on CD.

I think he expected some kind of replysmile BTW I asked them also.
Digitmovies label is producing LP and also CD version of some of their scores. So there exists this option.

However, Digitmovies was and is mainly a CD label and nowadays they are also forced to produce LPs of their popular cult titles as there is so much demand for vinyl among collectors (and many younger ones among them) above all in Italy itself.
Four Flies on the other hand is only a vinyl label. They don´t have any intention or interest in producing CDs. This is obvious and you don´t have to wait for any reply from them to get a confirmation of this..

Well, La Schiava Io Ce L'Ho E Tu No is now being released on CD by Beat records, after the 2018 Four Flies LP edition. It would be good to know in advance.

Back in 2018 I ordered the 2xLP (20 pounds + 15 pounds shipping) but it was defective with horrible surface noises.

So I ordered the 2xLP again (20 pounds + 15 pounds shipping) which was OK, but had to spend a day to rip, clean and edit for a CDr.

Now the CD is being released (20 pounds + much less shipping).

That's quite a waste of time to me

Yes, of course I understand. But then it would be better if you ask Digitmovies, Beat or even Quartet if any of them intends to (re-)release the Nicolosi score - which is owned by Warner Chappell - on CD in the near future. It certainly makes more sense than asking Four Flies who have nothing to do with CDs at all. It´s simply not their business.

Four Flies usually works very bad.
Lots of minor issues and mistakes on credits. No good.

You are not fully informed, Stefan.

In 2016 I went to a club in Silverlake (Ca.) specifically to purchase a copy of this album because it included a Cd. https://www.discogs.com/Various-Esterno-Notte/release/7940919

But go on with your excuses for this phony "elitist" trend in music that couldn't be any more obnoxious to soundtrack collecting fans.

If you're trying to refute Stefan's point that Flies is not a CD producer, I don't think an occasional bonus CD to a vinyl release proves anything. Noone would consider Stylotone a producer of CD. But they do have three stand-alone CDs which are the exception in their catalog:

I'm not sure why you're maligning him about "elitist" music trends. I thought he was just stating facts about vinyl demand, not making value judgements.

Maybe you have misunderstood me, but I am certainly not a fan of Four Flies and their LP releases. I have just made some observations on how the soundtrack market unfortunately works nowadays (above all here in Europe) and no so-called "excuses" for an "elitist trend".
But thanks for the hint that for the "Esterno Notte" and also the "Esterno Giorno" compilations they at least included a bonus CD to the entire package - in a similar way that Stylotone did it so that you have of course to buy everything if you only want to get the enclosed CD which is kind of a joke.
I also see that in one or two cases - for example AFRICA OSCURA by Giuliano Sorgini - they did release an additional CD, but nevertheless this seems to be a rare exception if you look at their entire output:

Thanks all.

It is too bad that the LPs do not come with hi-rez digital downloads. They would be worth it at those prices.

We're living in odd times. I never thought I'd see the day where CD & digital formats would be passed over and omitted completely with 'vinyl only' releases taking centre stage. If some people prefer the sound of vinyl over those other formats that's fine. But ignoring those formats altogether in this era - in 2020 - does carry the whiff of elitism about it. I get it that there are licensing issues & limitations with regards to releasing different formats. But pretending that vinyl is the 'only format that matters' in 2020 is simply taking the piss. Vinyl heads always looked down on CD & digital formats as being vastly inferior, but never did I expect any of them to be able to dictate the terms & conditions to the point where CD & digital formats were completely excluded from the process.

At least give the music to Beat or Digitmovies so they can do a CD/vinyl releases. Releases such as Alessandro Alessandroni's 'Spontaneous' & Piccioni's extended version of 'Il Dio Sotto La Pelle' are currently stuck in vinyl hell with no sign of a proper CD or digital release.

If you got music rights for vinyl release of specific title why not to opted also for CD / digital release - it is much cheaper to press CD and there is still market for it.
Don´t know how much is music rights cost difference if labels produce both LP & CD formats versus one of them.

Based on Tele80 Jayce OST campaign there is still quite huge demand for CDs.
All solo CD pre-orders were sold in comparison with cca 1/4 sold units of solo LP format.
More people even opted for CD / LP combo than for solo LP.
It is only one campaign but it was interesting see this.

LP vs VINYL pressing prices
https://www.discmanufacturingservices.com/

VINYL IN GATEFOLD SLEEVES (300 copies): £1,509.00 / €1677.72 / $1976.69

CD IN JEWEL CASES (300 copies): £473.00 / €525.856 / $619.524

That´s quite insane difference.

I can go you one better slint -- Early-2018, I was fortunate enough to pay beaucoup bucks for an original Vedette pressing of La Schiava. And like you, spent all the time to make the best transfer possible to a CD-R. Within a few months, the Four Flies expanded 2-LP was released -- I went through all the same effort to get that onto a CD-R for "easy listening." And then of course, quite unexpected, we get the Beat release. The up side, of course, is the many enjoyable hours I got to spend listening to this terrific score, prior to the CD release.

I've been very impressed by the Four Flies label; their releases are always top-notch (I've not encountered any bad vinyl pressings so far). In addition to their vinyl releases and LP/CD combos, they have released a few titles on stand-alone CD, and some titles are available in FLAC/MP3 download format on the Bandcamp website. However, none of the vinyl releases I've purchased have come with an additional download code.

I'm not sure how they pick which format for any particular release. Me, I prefer CD for everything, but will go vinyl or FLAC if I have to. Not crazy about MP3s.

That pressing cost for 300 CDs is not quite there, but is approaching the price I paid for my original Vedette La Schiava LP. I know there are more costs involved in producing a CD than just the pressing cost, but if I was told, "Hey, for a couple hundred bucks more, you can get 300 silver-pressed CDs," the decision would be kind of a no-brainer.
