THURSDAY, JULY 30

KAJILLIONAIRE---trailer released for the comedy movie about a family of con artists starring Evan Rachel Wood.

OBI-WAN KENOBI---Lucasfilm is reportedly casting for a "precocious" boy and girl, 8-11 years old, for the Disney+ miniseries which led to speculation the roles are for a young Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. The miniseries is set eight years after the prequel trilogy.

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY---Ron Howard commented on rumors of a sequel to SOLO, “Well, there’s no sequel planned now. And it’s amazing to be a part of a STAR WARS movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit, which is not what you’d expect. But that’s been an odd, strange journey for that movie.”

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER---Karl Urban commented on his cameo as a Stormtrooper, whose dialogue was, "Knights of Ren.", “Here’s the process. I had the good fortune to go and visit J.J. Abrams while he was shooting THE RISE OF SKYWALKER. While I was there, he put me in a Stormtrooper uniform and we had a really fun day on set.”

DREDD---Rebellion video game developer Jason Kingsley commented on a sequel to DREDD and the MEGA-CITY ONE tv series, “I want there to be a [DREDD} sequel. We’ve got the rights back so we can do it, we’ve just got to get rid of this virus thing that’s going on at the moment, and then hopefully things can kick off in all sorts of different areas of making film and TV, it’s just, it’s all very messed up at the moment for everybody.
A lot of work has been done on all sorts of different scripts actually. So MEGA-CITY ONE the tv show. Basically, we can’t go into production because of the [situation] and we’ve got scripts and everything is ready to go but the problem is, because of the [situation] and everybody’s funding changes and everybody’s shifting around.”

THE GREEN HORNET---Kevin Smith is developing an animated tv series about the adult son of the Green Hornet and the adult daughter of Kato who team up to fight crime.

ISLAND---movie underway based on the Aldous Huxley novel. Leonardo DiCaprio is a producer.

FULL SERVICE---biomovie underway based on the Scotty Bowers memoir in which the World War II Marine became a sex procurer for Hollywood's top closeted stars. Luca Guadagnino is the director.

TRIVIA---character actor Douglas Spencer is perhaps best known for playing newspaper reporter Ned Scott, who was part of a team of US Air Force crewmen and scientists who killed a blood-sucking alien invader in the original THE THING. However, Spencer played an alien in THIS ISLAND EARTH and a part of a two-headed Martian in THE TWILIGHT ZONE episode "Mr. Dingle, The Strong".

When Zig zags, Zag zigs, which means they're headed in the same direction.

Well, I for one wanted to see more stories with Ehrenreich as Solo pretty much immediately after seeing the film, so it's never been 'underground' for me. I'm keeping my fingers tentatively crossed that a sequel might happen one day, sooner rather than later.

This was just on TV. Its one of the worst looking films in recent history. Its so washed out, dank and dark. Its not Star Wars at all. I really didn't like the actors take on the classic characters, the new characters weren't interesting and there just wasn't any chemistry. I could watch Emilia Clarke all day though. High octain score too.

I enjoyed Solo greatly. It was a fun adventure and the actors really caught the spirit of the characters, rather than actually imitating them. While I wasn’t overly fond of Han experiencing every major event of his life in a span of a few weeks, I had a great time. I would watch a series of these just on the strength of Han and Chewie’s relationship. It was the sweetest pairing in the franchise. These two were immediate friends and they were really charming. Yeah the score was a knockout. Honesty, I really enjoy the side films and find them to be more fun and less disappointing than the later saga chapters.

For me, SOLO was the most enjoyable Star Wars film since the original two...(three?).
Although I don't hate on the sequel trilogy like many do. They passed the time well enough, but I can see they're deeply flawed.
It's the prequel trilogy I can't really watch...and Rogue One characters annoy me, although I've grown to like the last hour of it.

Rouge One is another film I just revisited on cable television. It's heart was in the right place but I just didn't care about the characters.

Its another story that didn't need to be told. The infamous line in Star Wars, paraphrasing, "Many died while acquiring these plans", was intriguing enough for our imagination to fill in the rest. That's what the best of films and books do. I didn't need it spelled out for me in a full fledged film.

I would also argue the engineer secretly designing a weakness in the Death Star that was virtually impossible to exploit didn't help my suspension of disbelief either. I mean if you wanted to put in a flaw in the Death Star, rig it so it blows up the first time it attempts to fire its main weapon!

That's my only thing: these stories didn't beg for dramatization, but I'm happy with what they did with them for the most part. Solo should have spread the love a bit and took these "big events" of Han's life and plan them for a few films.

I enjoyed "Rogue One".
It was like a proper old war movie for me.
Knowing they were all doomed made it more poignant for me, and my interest was largely in whether or not they would "die well".

I'm looking forward to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, he's my second favorite STAR WARS character, Yoda being my favorite.

To be quite honest, Rogue One is like my 3rd favorite Star Wars franchise film and Solo ain't nearly as bad as some feltl it to be. Both are certainly better than that gargantuan mess of film aka Rise of Skywalker.
