I don't know why, but I blipped out on buying Chris Young scores at some mid point in his career.
I remember loving his early stuff, like some kind of James Horner 2.0, he was.
His style was similar to Horners and many times he was obviously following a temp track that contained Horner music.
But he most certainly had his own individual sound too.
His early efforts were great and as he graduated to bigger films like Hellraiser 2, Flowers In The Attic, BAT 21 and Dark Half, his scores were always something to look forward to.
But from around 1995 to 2005, there's quite a gap in my collection, which suddenly resumed with Ghost Rider, Drag Me To Hell and Creation.
Stuff like this score (Set It Off) and Hard Rain and Entrapment* just passed me by, for some bizarre reason. It's not like I went off his scores or style of music either.
I'm working on tracking many down and getting to know them, while shite all interests me from most current scores.
Any recommendations from my Chris Young Lost Years?
*I've bagged cheap copies of Hard Rain and Entrapment off eBay last week.

Kev you should absolutely check out the following scores!
-- An Unfinished Life (beautiful Americana, plus the album of piano renditions is great too)
-- The Exorcism of Emily Rose (He hasn't really done another horror score like this before or since as far as I know of; it's through and through just about as chilling and haunting as music can get)
-- Haunted Summer (LLL put this out a couple of years ago if you missed it -- might be some of the most unabashedly beautiful, hypnotic music I own. Wonderful stuff!)
-- Murder In The First (It'll blow you away. Reprogram the two source cues to the end and you'll be kicking yourself for not having listened sooner)
-- The Hurricane (Leans into some of the stylings you hear in Set It Off, but in a much more dramatic and moving setting. It's GREAT)
-- The Core (Orchestral bombast taken to the absolute extreme -- this stuff is so relentless that just listening will make you out of breath. Incredible stuff)
-- Bless The Child (You've just gotta listen to this stuff, dude -- it's up there with Drag Me To Hell, Hellraiser, The Fly II, et. al -- incredible horror music. There's a reason this guy has the reputation he has)
-- Hush (Cheesy as it sounds, this might the best use of the "Hush Little Baby" lullaby I've ever heard in a film score. Plus the thriller music in this score rivals some of the greats. You gotta check it out if you can find it)
-- The two Grudge scores (certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but if you appreciate the more ambient, textural and music concrete qualities of a lot of modern horror scores, these two are just wonderful)
-- The Shipping News (It's just beautiful stuff)
And for stuff that has come out after the time frame you've requested, I've gotta throw in my recommendation for these next few scores as well in case you or anyone else reading this has not checked them out yet:
-- Killing Season (It's just incredible! Digs into something much deeper, moving and driving than you'd ever expect from this terrible movie)
-- The two Monkey King scores (Wonderful large orchestra music in a fantasy setting -- the variety, breadth and impact of this stuff will knock your socks off)
-- The Uninvited (With an incredible main theme, haunting interludes, and music that'll I'm legitimately scared of listening to by myself in the dark, this album is a heck of a ride)
-- Sinister (Dude, where to even start with this one. Chris was clearly inspired [or maybe was just given more free rein than most other projects allow], but this music is like nothing I've ever heard before. It's up there with Mica Levi's Under The Skin in terms of its alien sound; and if you've got an open mind when it comes to your film music, then this score will amaze and also really scare you. GREAT stuff!)
