Finally got 'round to ordering Intrada's Time Bandits, and was somewhat dismayed to discover sonic anomalies on the George Harrison track "Dream Away".

The first 15-44 seconds (the instrumental intro of the tune) of my copy have audible static in the left channel. It's not my drive (unless the two different drives I played it in -- one a DVD drive and the other Blu-ray drive -- are both defective, which seems unlikely). There is nothing in Doug's "Tech talk" notes that mentions "damaged tapes", so I'm wondering if I have a defective disc.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Thanks!

There is no audible static on what I've heard. If you've ruled out your equipment, and checked the disc for a smudge you could clean off, then it's defective. Lest anyone say otherwise, this does happen occasionally, and hopefully you'll get a hassle-free replacement.

Yes, I hear it, just as you describe. It's not pronounced, and I also would have assumed my headphones were just not quite plugged in or something.

He said it was audible so it must be pronounced and distracting enough to check his equipment. In the first 10 seconds, I can hear some faint grating sound on the left channel thru headphones, but no issues in the 15-44 seconds range he specified.

Oops, I misspoke. I meant to say from the opening of the track until 0:15. embarrassment

So I guess I'm not the only one. Thanks for the feedback, gents!

Any static you heard would have to be audible, otherwise you wouldn't know it was there. So when you wrote "audible static" I thought you were emphasizing that it was loud, like digital artifacts from a bad disc. Maybe my hearing is going, but this noise is more "inaudible." wink True, whatever it is shouldn't be there. Maybe you could post your question in the announcement thread at Intrada.

Yes. There's some minor static there - sounds like some wiring connection issue but thankfully it does not last long and it is minor.

So it seems to be present at the mastering level.

It doesn't bother me terribly, I just thought I might have a defective disc. In fact I'm relieved I don't have to deal with the hassle of sending my CD back for a replacement!

Thanks again everyone!

That’s exactly how I would’ve felt in the situation. More relieved it’s not a defect and relieved I don’t have to return it.
