This is a nice score, from the ever reliable label Keep Moving Records.
It kind of straddles the line between the modern film scoring template and the old school sound.
It's got nice themes and pleasant modulations, but also keeps things from getting too dated sounding for a modern audience.
I just wonder if Mr Kallis was aware he was doing the theme from Downton Abbey in track 14 (Training)?

I've got this joyful experience to come. Tracking reveals that it "left" Russia last Monday, but hasn't yet "arrived" in the UK. I'm looking forward to the listening experience. I'm not a sporty type so his name meant nothing to me but even those into football / soccer have said "Who ?". I've only just awoken to Kallis and have gotten Gagarin and The Black Prince as well but most of his other stuff is pretty damn rare. Cliffs of Freedom is listed everywhere as "currently unavailable" due to its label CD Baby having closed up shop. God knows what will happen to their stock, but the title got some good reviews.

Did you get all your Yuri Poteyenko titles through, George?

Not yet Kev, they're probably in a warehouse in Moscow waiting for a flight to Blighty. I'm just hoping that they are valued helpfully by Dmitry... i.e not more than 1 dollar each. But we'll see. I don't want to order any more titles until I see what a typical end cost is.

Just noticed your profile. I'm from scouseland originally too (Litherland, Crosby and Southport), but I live in Bedford now. My step-dad used to own a Bedford van otherwise there's no connection I'm aware of.

I've had loads of discs delivered by Dmitry too and never been hit by customs once, so you should be okay there, George.
I'm originally from Norris Green (I know), then moved to Fazakerley, and I now reside in Litherland, funnily enough.
A newish set of houses about 5 minutes walk from Litherland Town Hall and right by Litherland Park.
Small world, innit (but I wouldn't want to walk it) wink

My brother still lives on the other side of the canal by what was the old Richmond sausage factory before it was demolished. I spent many happy hours watching the Litherland lift bridge (now removed) going up and down in the 60s before rushing home to watch Thunderbirds. What great scores they were.

Truth be told, I love me some footy too, but I'd never heard of this dude.
But the music's nice.

Kallis is almost guaranteed to be an insta-buy for me...he has a really great track record of quality scores (Cliffs of Freedom, Black Prince, Albion, Gagarin).

Nothing to do with the main topic, but I grew up in Litherland. Just round the corner from the Jubilee and also remember the lift bridge (before it was demolished to make way for the flyover). My mum worked at the town hall.

A small world as Kev says

Paul Place (the old editor of Music From The Movies) used to say there must be something in the water in Liverpool, cos he could never believe the number of film score enthusiasts there were from around here.
He always used to come up for a weekend visit from Bristol to enjoy some beers and major film music convo's. Good times.
The Jubilee has had to become my local, since they knocked The Priory down, which was a two minute walk from my house frown The Joob takes about 10 minutes walk!!! smile
Good to see another film music scouser swelling the ranks.

Got my KeepMoving package today. Well packed and valued at a level that did not incur the interest of Customs. Of the 13 titles 12 are Poteyenko compositions, so the easy choice for a first play is George Kallis' Lev Yashin. I'll let you know what I think once I've played it.

Since my last post I have "spoken" to George Kallis on Messenger via his Facebook Page. He was quite hopeful that remaining stocks of Cliffs of Freedom would not be in limbo forever in a warehouse controlled by CD Baby.

Kallis' excellent score for GAGARIN: FIRST IN SPACE was a 'hot potato' back in 2013; I think we even nominated it in the IFMCA. But I've never really grabbed on to anything else he's done. I saw this title being released earlier, and have been meaning to check it out.

As for the goalkeeper at the center of this story, I only know him vaguely by name. I live a long way from Liverpool, after all, and it's not even my favourite Premier League team.

Lev Yashin never played for Liverpool, Thor, ya crazy Swede! wink
He was some Russian goalie from the black and white days.
I'd never heard of him either.

Never heard of Lev Yashin?? wink
Where you live, under a rock?!!
Jeez alongside Banks he was considered the best to have ever played in goal. Famous for 5 minutes??? No, Yashin played in four World Cup finals in 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970, during his 15 years of international competition for the Soviet Union!!
