A mate told me this score was ace some years ago, but I just figured it was because Matt Damon was in the film (he was going through a Matt Damon phase and buying any scores to films he was in and liking them all). Plus, I'd never heard of the three composers (not that that should matter but...) But I picked up a copy cheap on eBay t'other week and he was right. It is ace. The Main Theme might be the best cowboy/western theme I've heard this century. It sure is catchy. Tex-Mex-icana at it's best. Shades of old classic Goldsmith in there somewhat too.
Found the DVD for $1 & just watched it. Absolutely loved the music. A good choice & really well put together CD that plays so well. In fact if you did not know it was from a film, you may just think it was a western style almost instrumental CD.
Wonderful listen & at one point one of my most played CDs.
Thanks for bringing it up, going to dig out & give it a new spin.
I don’t hear any Goldsmith in this score but I do really love it. There are actually two primary themes and they’re both great (and both given their best expression in the final cue).
I hear the vibe of Goldsmith in the title track theme (3), Yavar. Things like Breakheart Pass and Hollister come to mind when I hear it, more the flavour.
