-or- Or a different version? Note again the "original" score. Thanks in advance. Better packaging and Notes on the RCA release, very very minor benefit in sound quality on the Sony in terms of clarity due to the DSD transfer (DSD 1-bit was an overall dud, even at 2.8mhz sampling rate.) Honestly, I would keep them all at this point, if you are even a moderate Star Wars fan. I sold off the original RSO CD releases of Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi over a decade ago and regret it. The Arista boxed set I still have after 26 years, as well as the 1997/98 RCA, 2004 Sony. I have only Star Wars and Empire from the 2018 Disney releases after becoming disgusted with the abrupt edits and sound mixing/panning that ruined the intent to recreate the original albums. The sound on the Arista box is generally okay, but some elements were pulled from the 35mm music stems. That "Finale" from EMPIRE is slightly truncated, has an annoying "pop/whoosh" sound at the point near the conclusion of the first quote of the "Han and Leia" transition where Chewy and Lando blast off in the Falcon from the medical ship. There are other subtle and not so subtle differences here and there, but still a great set and worth keeping. I find that with todays modern digital editing tools, I can recreate the original theatrical album programs using either the RCA/Sony or Arista, or a combination of both, so I don't need the Disney albums. Very MaxB

Is there any good reason to own this beyond collecting? I think it's the 4-disc box set. YES! It's the only STAR WARS (original trilogy) music I will ever own. Perfect representation of the music (expanded from the OSTs, but not too much like the subsequent 2CD sets), and with better sound quality than any other version. Throw everything else away, and keep/buy this box! It's a great set, a wonderful presentation, and one of my favorite musical memories of all time. But it's just missing too much Jedi. OTOH it does a much better job of track separation on both Empire and Jedi. The RCA sets glob them together into unwieldy massive suites.
