So, is the whole score dixieland jazz and John Addison style comedy music?
Varese have only put up 5 sample tracks and they're all generally alike.
Is there much dramatic or tender scoring in the film?
I see from the blurb that there is, but why didn't Varese make some variety available in their samples?

I have a feeling that if Varese made available track 7."Moses Fighting Tears" and track 13. "Moses Driving Through Town", they might sell more copies. That's just my hunch that those two tracks feature the worthy classic Conti sound, without hearing them. If I had only heard those (Actually only 4) samples without having seen the film, I probably wouldn't have ordered this. But there's a wonderfully powerful, emotional theme to The Big Fix which is not present in the Main Titles/End Titles.

Thanks henry, and yeah, Valiant, it's like they picked a few random tracks, without listening to them and just shoved them on there.
There's no way I would touch that CD based on those clips and yet I generally love Bill Conti's film music.

Good ol' Dana, you came through for me again! I've been wondering if "I Wanna Be Seduced" was in the mix, and I hadn't yet seen a track list. Happily, of course, we have the song on one of Leon's many wonderful albums.

The first time I ever heard the song, Paul Shaffer was playing the piano on "Saturday Night Live" and guest host Richard Dreyfuss was singing atop the piano. If you pay, you can see the whole show online. Meanwhile, here at least is the soundtrack of Richard's vocal. It cuts off right when the audience starts applauding, but if memory of that night serves, Dreyfuss added ruefully words to the effect of, "And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the honest to God truth."

Watched the film today, which was breezy and fun, if slight, coasting a lot on Richard Dreyfuss' considerable everyman charm. Bill Conti's score is an enjoyable mix of lite jazz and effecting dramatic suspense scoring. Don't know if I'd pick up the CD unless there were a sale (the Twilight Time Blu has the requisite isolated score track), but it's a solid effort.

Preston, I rented the VHS tape of The Big Fix, back during the Pleistocene Era if I recall correctly, and was horrified to discover that the Leon Redbone tune had been replaced with some other jaunty but much less charming number -- a licensing thing, I suppose, but very disappointing. Anyway, I was more than relieved to find the original song back in its rightful place when I first viewed the Twilight Time blu-ray release. I was (am) a huge Leon Redbone fan, never missed a chance to watch him on SNL or wherever he showed up, perched on a stool with his big Panama hat and dark sunglasses, always looking down at his guitar as he played and sang. Truly one of a kind.

Dreyfuss has a nice and pleasant singing voice. That was fun. I don't think he did his own sing however in HELLO DOWN THERE!

0:33 A little JAWS foreshadowing perhaps?

Samples of these have been added. Take a listen.

Thanks for the new samples. They show that the score is more varied than I remember.

I just got a shipping notice from SAE. So we'll see how much longer this takes to arrive than normal, what with this pandemic going on.

Truly. And truly much missed. Thank God for all those records. But you're right, his visual presentation was an important part of his mystique. I must look to see if there's any concert home video of him available...

My copy arrived today, what a great score! It's in my top ten! I look forward to more unreleased Conti!

My copy arrived today and I agree with you, Henry! For me his best scores are the ones in the 1970's.

Exchange of Envelopes (from the new sample) sounds like a cross between his training music from The Karate Kid and John Williams' Paper Chase.

I would also love to see Conti's THE SEDUCTION OF JOE TYNAN, CARBON COPY, PRIVATE BENJAMIN, FOR KEEPS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to name a few!

Can someone who has gotten the CD tell me what the VCL number is for The Big Fix? I’m curious because of the odd number for U. S. Marshall’s.
