I got so tired of singing “Happy Birthday” whenever I washed my hands to stave off The Virus that I decided to come up with another meme to keep me entertained…… In RAINTREE COUNTY, Elizabeth Taylor must go to the local photo studio to have her Graduation picture taken. In this Civil War era, the photographer was most likely making a tintype portrait, and it was indoors with only natural lighting coming through a window, so he’d need a short time exposure to achieve this photo. This particular photographer uncapped the lens exposing the plate, then recited a little rhyme he’d made up…… “Look at the Birdie---Look at the Tree---My Gal’s the Prettiest---In the whole Count-ee” Then he re-capped the lens and the exposure was completed. I discovered that if I recited this short phrase dramatically like Edwin Booth might have done, it would be about 5-6 seconds long. So I wet down my hands, lathered them up, and did one round on the left hand, then one round on the right hand, then another on the left, and another on the right……for a total of 20 seconds. Most sites are recommending at least 20 seconds for each episode of hand-washing. Try this for awhile and then see if you can suggest and post any other ideas for us to try so we can vary our repertoires! Incidentally, Elizabeth Taylor was so spectacularly beautiful in this ca.1950-1957 period, I’m sure the tintype didn’t do her justice.

I tend to hum whichever theme is in my head that day. Yesterday it was Nico Fidenco's the Texican theme and today its Farnon's Shalako. Keep well manderley.
