My package got shipped on march 17th and still hasn't arrived in Belgium...

Ok, it's officially a month now...Getting really worried because I see it's available at Music Box Records and Chris' Soundtrack Corner.

I'm sure it will turn up at some stage for you. I remember once waiting 6 weeks for my copy of The Deep to arrive when I ordered it. I'd almost given up on it and it eventually appeared. Sometimes these deliveries seem to get help up somewhere in the Postal service between US and Europe I've noticed. I've waited 3-4 weeks several times.

Thanks. I'll wait a little longer. It has given me the chance to dig out some older stuff again.

This beauty finally arrived yesterday and it only took 6 weeks to get here! Nevertheless, thank you LaLaLand for this treasure, one my all time favorite John Williams' scores.

You are lucky. I'm waiting 8 weeks and still nothing frown

MANY thanks to La-La Land for doing this one. I have always considered it one of John Williams best, in my JW Top 10 to be sure. After almost 30 years the cues for Oklahoma Territory and The Land Race still run chills up my spine. To have alternate takes for both of these is more than i would have ever dreamed of.

Those who miss the Enya can find it on the MCA Original Soundtrack CD from 1992. I for one am happy for the inclusion of Paddy Moloney and The Chieftains for the traditional Irish flavor they bring. The Chieftains were first heard in the USA in Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon from 1975. They share in the Best Original Score Oscar for that year.

Coincidentally, I was in Cobh, Ireland last fall at the Titanic Museum there. In the collection is the 1/5th scale immigrant ship "Servia" Ron Howard had built for Far and Away. Very impressive in every detail.

Bumping to say this is still in constant rotation. I listen to this as I drive to and from work. Its not a score I really paid much attention to for decades only playing the OST once every couple of years. But I now realize its one of his finest scores along with his 70's and 80's blockbusters. Its a wonderful thing when you re-discover a "new" classic score!

Just a quick question, relating to this set, which I'm sure Mike M can answer (unless Mr Williams is reading, which, in case, he'll do) wink ..and apologies if it's already been asked/answered elsewhere.

Why is the film version of Oklahoma Territory in the 'additional music/bonus' section, and not the 'score presentation' where it arguably belongs?

I can't speak for Mike or anything, but I can share the details of the differences, and my opinion on the choices made:

The version of "Oklahoma Territory" that was on the original OST album and appears in the "Score Presentation" here is the original version of the cue recorded.

Later, a new insert was recorded that replaced the gorgeous opening minute with (in my opinion) much less interesting material, likely at the request of Ron Howard, for reasons we can only speculate on. That's what the bonus track version is: this new opening insert edited into the existing recording of the rest of the cue.

So I personally am glad the more interesting and unique opening minute is in the main program, and the later-recorded, less interesting opening minute is relegated to the bonus tracks.

Incidentally, "Joe Sr.'s Passing" is the exact same situation - the "Score Presentation" version is how he originally recorded the cue, while the bonus track version replaces the ending with a new ending insert that is, in my opinion, less interesting than his original ending. So again I am glad it is in the bonus tracks and not the main program.

Incidentally, "The Land Race" and "Joseph and Shannon" are the other way around - later recorded inserts/overlays are integrated into the "score presentation" version (they were on the OST album, too), while the bonus tracks version are the original recordings before the inserts/overlays.

"The Big Match" is a curiosity where the OST & Score Presentation version is how he originally recorded it, and the bonus track version opens with a new insert (the first 34 seconds) that was written to replace the first 1:19 of the original cue (IE, the idea would have been to start the music later in the scene than originally spotted). However Ron Howard didn't end up doing that in the film, sticking to the original idea. So in this case the film, OST, and Score Presentation version are all the same, and the bonus track is a "what if" option that didn't get used.

Now that I think about it, in all 5 cases here Mike went with the same choices JW made for the OST album when deciding what to put in the main program, and what to put in the bonus tracks. How about that. Minority Report followed the same methodology.

Cheers Jason. That sounds the most likely explanation.

It's been a year and a half since my last post in this thread and I still play it for weeks at a time while driving to work. It was in constant rotation the last two weeks. Really lovely score.

The ultimate score for St. Patrick's Day. The Land Race alone is a perfect example of the glory of going to the movies and the majesty of big Hollywood film music, with a Williams twist. I get a smile and a tear every time I listen.

I was always hesitant on purchasing this score. I thought the one great theme on the JW Greatest Hits was enough for me. Plus, how many JW scores can you own? Answer: Never enough! I Finally got around to picking this up last year. Easily one of my favorite JW scores. From start to finish, just an amazing listen. If you are on the fence, don't miss this one. It appears to be sold out at LLL, but still currently available at other retailers.

A fantastic score, brimming with energy and emotion and themes.
As brilliantly old-school as they come.
A score that would be the pinnacle of most film composers careers, yet is barely a blip on that of John Williams'.
Congratulations to LLL on another JW sellout.

More please wink
