It's been a few years since I last shopped around New York, but apart from Academy Records and Book Off (which are both pretty good and should see you spend some dollars), I remember St Marks Sounds around 8th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue and one around Bleeker street called...Bleeker Street Records (right near a nice little independent coffee shop, cos Carole kicked back in there after giving up waiting for me). But if no one else is mentioning them, they might have shut up shop.
Just came back from Academy and they had fine selection! Lots of golden age, to my surprise. Picked up a few and was happy to finally snatch Bernstein’s Stars ‘n’ Bars too. I missed out on it in 1991 — but nothing stops patience

Funny that you finally made it there. I was visiting from Boston yesterday and was there yesterday and got Morricone’s Symphony for Richard III, Williams Monsignor, Delerue’s rejected Something Wicked, and Bernstein’s Some Came Running.
PS MIchael Nyman’s MGV is playing at NYC Ballet and it’s one of the best things I have ever heard live. I got a seat right above the pit for like $35
Well it was an 8 hour flight and a hour long one of the craziest cab rides ever from Newark, so yeah: 'finally' seems appropriate. And I was there with my family (my son turned 16) and visiting a film music store (or the ballet) wasn't on top of their list
