I haven't played the deluxe edition of STANLEY AND IRIS that Varèse issued in 2017 for quite some time. Saw the film on TV last night. Better than some of the reviews of the time. The music John Williams composed for the film is so gorgeous. Williams in non-epic mode is just as wonderful. His music for the film PETE AND TILLIE is also on the CD. A belated thank you to Varèse.

I love his tinkly, laid-back quiet reflective scores like these and ALWAYS & STEPMOM.

Turntables are for vinyl fans. I will play my CD.

All of the smaller, more intimate character scores mentioned here are winners. It's the side of Williams that so often gets overlooked by the general public and it's great to be able to demonstrate his immense range playing something Stanley & Iris or The Accidental Tourist.

It's a slightly different species of quiet and reflective scoring, but I'd put PRESUMED INNOCENT in there as well.

SABRINA
ALWAYS
PRESUMED INNOCENT

Three of his best and most listenable scores - but there are so many...

I absolutely agree. I find myself coming back to this soundtrack (S&I) as often as his more well known blockbusters.

All great scores. Among them STANLEY & IRIS is a personal favorite. I'd love an expanded/complete SABRINA some day...

I love Williams in this mode. Far more than the big muscular action music these days.

Disregarding for a moment the suave 60s cocktail lounge scores (which are also often quiet and reflective, but in a slightly different mode), you can't go wrong with these 'quiet and reflective' scores (for the most part): JANE EYRE, PETE'N'TILLIE, MONSIGNOR, EMPIRE OF THE SUN, THE RIVER, THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST, ALWAYS, PRESUMED INNOCENT, STANLEY & IRIS, SABRINA, STEPMOM, ANGELA'S ASHES, THE TERMINAL. THE BOOK THIEF fits the bill as far as the style is concerned, but I don't really like it -- in one ear and out the other -- so I'm not counting it here.
