Seven films announced & still nothing I want (& I could list 100 wanted Warner owned films at the drop of a hat). Oh well, I'm sure the colour on Million Dollar Mermaid (1952) will knock your eyes out (new 2020 4K scan of the original nitrate Technicolor negatives).

Since you are so dissatisfied with their releases, instead of coming here to complain regularly, why not contact the Warner Archive directly?

You can contact them on Instagram- they usually respond quite quickly. WA also has a page on Facebook..

Oo, you got out of bed the wrong side this morning. Not a complaint, just an observation (& I do buy any releases that appeal to me, I have over 25 - last purchase, Tex Avery), & me contacting Warner to say: look, just release the titles I want, okay, would be entirely pointless, as you well know. Maybe just don't read my posts from now on if they annoy you, put me on ignore, please.

I don't do that-- ignore . No I didn't get up on the wrong side of bed, but thanks for your concern.

I have spoken to WA often and they DO listen.. They are interested in what fans want.

I wrote last(a month back) about all the great new releases coming from WA because you said the same then - "nothing for me"... I am sorry if that sounded unfair. I am glad that you support WA . I just want to be positive about their efforts since there are fewer and fewer companies releasing classic films.

So far there’s just two for September:

4K restorations of:

Kentucky Kernels
Flying Leathernecks

Also, a Film Noir 4-film set containing The Set-Up, Out of the Past, Murder, My Sweet, and Gun Crazy; and a reissue of Jeremiah Johnson.

The Opposite Sex (1956) had been leaked about a week ago, but that has yet to show up and possibly might not be coming next month. I have to say I’ve never seen either of these movies and am certainly not familiar with Wheeler and Woolsey so I may have to give these a try. Any thoughts on these films.

I've never heard of Kentucky Kernels. I'll be buying Flying Leathernecks, I've read that it's a great looking restoration of a 3-strip Technicolor film & I do love fifties war movies (& it is the Duke!). The Blu-ray of Jeremiah Johnson has always looked a bit ropey, it really needs a good re-master, is this just a straight reissue? Also, the three, That's Entertainment films are being re-released as a set at the end of the month, & quite cheap too.

Warner Archive has officially announced its September batch of Blu-ray releases. They are: Genesis II / Planet Earth (1973-1974), Flying Leathernecks (1951), Kentucky Kernals (1934), Prodigal Son: The Complete First Season (2019-2020), and Young Sheldon: The Complete Third Season(2019-2020).

Kentucky Kernals

Synopsis: Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey team up with Our Gang star "Spanky" McFarland in this riotous slapstick comedy, from director George Stevens. Out-of-work vaudevillians Willie (Wheeler) and Elmer (Woolsey) somehow become Spanky's guardians and think they've come into a fortune when Spanky inherits a farm in Kentucky. What they don't know is that the farm sits directly in the line of fire in a feud between the Milfords and the Wakefields. Now, as Willie falls in love with the beautiful Gloria Wakefield (Mary Carlisle) and the pair manage to arrange a truce, young Spanky reignites the war between the two families. It all adds up to "a good vehicle for the team with a great slapstick finale" (Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide).

Special Features and Technical Specs:
NEW 4K RESTORATION FROM THE ORIGINAL CAMERA NEGATIVE
Vintage 1934 cartoons:
BUDDY'S CIRCUS
Popeye in THE DANCE CONTEST
Popeye in SOCK-A-BYE BABY
Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature
STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 8.

Flying Leathernecks

Synopsis: Marine fighter squadron VMF 247 is in the thick of it on Guadalcanal. The airstrip they hold is hammered by offshore batteries. Malaria and combat fatigue grip the men. Fuel is low and replacement parts are few. The only things not in short supply are the enemy...and Major Don Kirby's determination to keep fighting with whatever he has. John Wayne is in the cockpit and in command as Kirby, a leader at odds with his executive officer (Robert Ryan) and at the forefront of tacticians eager to coordinate ground combat with low-flying aerial sorties. Nicholas Ray (Rebel Without a Cause) directs, skillfully incorporating actual battlefield and dogfight footage. Flying Leathernecks has the flight stuff!

Special Features and Technical Specs:
NEW 4K RESTORATION FROM THE ORIGINAL TECHNICOLOR CAMERA NEGATIVE
Theatrical trailer
Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature
STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 15.

Genesis II / Planet Earth

Description: "My name is Dylan Hunt. My story begins the day on which I died." So begins this sci-fi saga from visionary creator Gene Roddenberry (Star Trek). Genesis II follows NASA scientist Dylan Hunt (Alex Cord), who's buried in his own suspended-animation machine at NASA's underground Carlsbad complex following an earthquake. Revived in the terrifying 22nd century by the pacifists of PAX, descendants of his fellow scientists, he learns of The Great Conflict, a third and final world war that destroyed everything he knew. As an agent of PAX, Dylan seeks to spread the message of science and peace throughout this savage and strange new world called Earth. In Genesis II, he encounters the Tyranians, a mutant, militaristic neighboring civilization. In Planet Earth, Dylan (now played by John Saxon) journeys to the Confederacy, where a despotic matriarchy enslaves all males. Technical Specs:
BRAND NEW MASTERS
Optional English SDH subtitles
STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 15.

Prodigal Son: The Complete First Season

Synopsis: Criminal psychologist Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) knows how killers think and how their minds work. Why? His father is "The Surgeon," a serial killer who has taken the lives of more than 20 people. He works with NYPD detective Gil Arroyo (Lou Diamond Phillips); Detective Dani Powell (Aurora Perrineau), a headstrong cop; Dr. Edrisa Tanaka (Keiko Agena), an off-center coroner; and Detective JT Tarmel (Frank Harts), who questions whether Bright is a psychopath himself. But Bright's best resource is his homicidal yet oddly loving father, Dr. Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen). As he helps track down dangerous criminals, Bright also battles his own demons – and it doesn't help that his mother, former leading socialite Jessica Whitly (Bellamy Young), has an opinion on every aspect of his life. Thankfully, he has the support of his annoyingly normal sister, Ainsley (Halston Sage), a TV journalist. Malcolm Bright isn't a serial killer, he was just raised by one.

Technical Specs:
Optional English SDH subtitles
STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 8.

Young Sheldon: The Complete Third Season

Synopsis: There's Normal Life. And Then There's Life with Young Sheldon. Is it normal to be smarter than your parents? Or to have a brother who's more interested in his hair than his studies and a twin sister whose personality is the opposite of yours? It is if you're Sheldon Cooper, the phenomenally gifted 11-year-old living in East Texas with his parents, George Sr. and Mary; siblings, Georgie and Missy; and tough-talking, beloved Meemaw. Season Three's 21 hilarious episodes follow Sheldon as he tests the patience of his family, the proofs of his analytical theories and the limits of his knowledge of the real world. Whether he's taking a break from science to obsess about Hobbits or setting foot on the Caltech campus for the very first time, you won't want to miss a nanosecond of this boy genius' genuinely heartwarming boyhood.

Technical Specs:
Optional English SDH subtitles
STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 1.

Previously announced: Bad Education.

Description: Inspired by the true story that rocked the town of Roslyn, NY in 2004 and garnered attention nationwide, Bad Education centers on the stunning impact and aftermath of a multi-million dollar embezzlement scheme. The darkly comical film highlights the deficiencies of the public education system in the U.S. while examining the broader forces that foster greed, corruption and lack of accountability in our institutions.

Bad Education follows Frank Tassone (Jackman) and Pam Gluckin (Janney), who reign over a popular Long Island school district on the verge of the nation's top spot, spurring record college admissions and soaring property values. Between them, they racked up over $11.2 million dollars in extravagant personal expenses.

"Bad Education is a fascinating tale of greed and corruption that's superbly written and directed, with stellar performances by Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney," said Rosemary Markson, WBHE Senior Vice President, TV Marketing. She added, "It's a truly exceptional film that has resonated with critics and viewers, and we are delighted to make it available to own on Blu-ray. Fans won't want to miss the opportunity to add this outstanding film to their home entertainment collections."

Bad Education, an HBO Films presentation, is directed by Cory Finley (Thoroughbreds); written by Mike Makowsky (I Think We're Alone Now), based on a New York Magazine article by Robert Kolker; produced by Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones for Automatik; Edward Vaisman, Julia Lebedev, and Oren Moverman for Sight Unseen Pictures; Mike Makowsky for Slater Hall; executive produced by Leonid Lebedev and Caroline Jacko.

Special Features:
Based on a True Story – A detailed breakdown of the true story that inspired Bad Education.
The Perception of Perfection – Hugh Jackman discusses his role as superintendent, Frank Tassone.
Hugh Jackman & Allison Janney: Virtual Conversation – Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney have a virtual conversation about their performances and provide insight into the real-life characters they portrayed.
STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 8.

I was disappointed that there was no Halloween horror films for release this October, but of course the virus has changed things. WAC on Facebook:

"Our release schedule has been subjected to delays and revised release dates due to the pandemic. Many facilities and storage vaults were or continue to remain closed due to these conditions. While we will have no new Halloween-aimed releases this October, that only means the intended films will arrive at some point in the future. Thank you in advance for your understanding."

Drop Dead Gorgeous
Space Ghost and Dino Boy: The Complete Series
Reversal of Fortune
Sunrise at Campobello
Waterloo Bridge (1940)
The Opposite Sex

Warner Archive has recently announced 4K restorations of Libeled Lady (this one has been on HBOMax and is supposed to be a huge improvement over the DVD) and The Pirate for the second half of November and have tweeted that there will be quite a few releases in December, which they usually take off.

And the final Warner Archive releases of the year are:

Tex Avery Vol. 2
Curse of Frankenstein (2-Disc Special Edition) (4K)
The Harvey Girls (4K from Technicolor elements)
Holiday Affair (2k)
Mister Roberts (4K)
Young Man with a Horn (4K)
The Shop Around the Corner (2k)
It Happened on Fifth Avenue (4K)
The 100: 7th and Final Season

Of all these titles, I’m definitely eyeing Mister Roberts and Shop Around the Corner and am considering a few others. While I’m not particularly interested in Curse of Frankenstein, I have to admit that lineup of extras is very impressive.

Psyched for MISTER ROBERTS! I'm usually okay with dvds, but the old one looks abit VHSish.

"Ode to Billy Joe" is coming back in print as a MOD dvd.

Yeah, a hell of a line up. Curse Of Frankenstein, Mister Roberts & Tex Avery for me.

Just in case it's unclear, those titles labeled "4K" are not actually 4K Ultra HD disc releases. It just means that the source elements were scanned in 4K. All of the releases are 2K standard Blu-rays.
