Interesting, I find this among Horner's finer works and would not cut a single minute. It is understated and contemplative, but I enjoy it a lot.

I have not seen the movie, so I don't know how well it worked as a film score; on album, I like it quite a bit.

Giving this score another listen for the first time in quite a while. As The Goblin notes above, the first thing that jumps out is, was TAXI DRIVER and/or FARGO in the temp track? Otherwise, it's heavyweight/overwrought Horner, but not too shabby overall. I'm grinning from ear to ear as I play Track 3/Give Me The Hammer And I'll Nail Em Up*...just GLORIOUS James Horner!! Better than almost anything written in the past 17 years since? Most probably. There aren't too many James Horner's out there these days, or anybody being allowed to be. I think it's time for me to re-evaluate all those (previously thought of) lower/mid tier level Horner efforts, to discover the joys they truly hold. This one is really rather good (never seen the film, have no desire to either). *apparently the bit, near the end of the track, were he does a little quote from BRAVEHEART, was re-scored for the film with a more original piece by Horner.

I played it a couple of weeks ago, first time in ages ( I think it had cobwebs on it). I quite liked it, like hearing a new score.
