Originally thought this score was a bore.

But, did find some really good stuff this time around.

Could easily get it down to about a 30 minute playlist.

This is encouraging, hope.
Why we part with nothing!
Hated this one - and I love Horner to Unlawful Entry, Bopha! - Kings Men, I can't get over Schindler & Taxi Driver/Fargo rips.

Due for a retry!

Interesting, I find this among Horner's finer works and would not cut a single minute. It is understated and contemplative, but I enjoy it a lot.

Now I'm REALLY due a revaluation, since I honestly trust and respect Mr. Zwar's opinion.

Pulled!

I remember despising this in the (awful) film, every cue cloddishly turned up to 11 on the drama-o-meter and mixed punishingly high. Of course, I haven't watched the movie in the years since.

I have not seen the movie, so I don't know how well it worked as a film score; on album, I like it quite a bit.

Giving this score another listen for the first time in quite a while.
As The Goblin notes above, the first thing that jumps out is, was TAXI DRIVER and/or FARGO in the temp track?
Otherwise, it's heavyweight/overwrought Horner, but not too shabby overall.
I'm grinning from ear to ear as I play Track 3/Give Me The Hammer And I'll Nail Em Up*...just GLORIOUS James Horner!!
Better than almost anything written in the past 17 years since? Most probably.
There aren't too many James Horner's out there these days, or anybody being allowed to be.
I think it's time for me to re-evaluate all those (previously thought of) lower/mid tier level Horner efforts, to discover the joys they truly hold.
This one is really rather good (never seen the film, have no desire to either).

*apparently the bit, near the end of the track, were he does a little quote from BRAVEHEART, was re-scored for the film with a more original piece by Horner.

It's quite a slow, ponderous score.
That's no bad thing, but might have been what made me pass it by somewhat, back in the day.
It's much better than I remember it, from this play through.
Also, very little re-use of previous material from Horner.
I'm hearing themes and motifs he never used before, or even after it.

This is my exact take on it too. One of the few Horner scores I really dig, believe it or not.

I played it a couple of weeks ago, first time in ages ( I think it had cobwebs on it). I quite liked it, like hearing a new score.
