FRIDAY, JANUARY 24

OBI-WAN KENOBI---two sources claim Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy put the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ miniseries on hold because the script was too similar to THE MANDALORIAN. Kennedy did not like the two scripts by Hossein Amini, and Lucasfilm was seeking a new writer. A source said, the “Kenobi story treaded similar ground as MANDALORIAN, seeing the Jedi master lending a protective hand to a young Luke and perhaps even a young Leia.” The production crew at Pinewood Studios was reportedly told pre-production was shut down "indefinitely".
However, Ewan McGregor said the reports are inaccurate, “It’s not been put on hold, it’s just been pushed back a little bit. The scripts are excellent and they just want them to be better. So we just pushed it back, but it’s not — it very dramatic, it would seem, online, there’s all kinds of sh*t online about it, but it’s only just slid back a bit. We’re still shooting it, I think it will still be aired when it was meant to be and I’m really excited about it. It’ll be fun to play again.”
McGregor later added that Lucasfilm delayed the miniseries in order to polish the scripts, “Now that Episode IX [STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER] came out and everyone at Lucasfilm has got more time to spend on the writing, they felt they wanted more time to write the episodes. I’ve read about 80, 90 percent of what they’ve written so far, and it’s really, really good. Instead of shooting this August, they just want to start shooting in January, that’s all. Nothing more dramatic than that.”

BLADE RUNNER---Denis Villeneuve said he would like to do another Blade Runner movie with new characters, but in the same film universe, “It’s such an inspiring place, the BLADE RUNNER world. The problem I have is the word ‘sequel.’ I think cinema needs original stories. But if you ask me if I’d like to revisit this universe in a different way, I can say yes. It would need to be a project on its own. Something disconnected from both other movies. A detective noir story set in the future… I wake up sometimes in the night dreaming about it.”

THE MATRIX---Brad Pitt said he turned a role in the hit movie, “I did pass on THE MATRIX. I took the red pill. That’s the only one I’m naming … I wasn’t offered two or three. Only the first one. Just to clarify that. I come from a place, maybe it’s my upbringing, if I didn’t get it, then it wasn’t mine. I really believe [the role] was never mine. It’s not mine. It was someone else’s and they go and make it. I really do believe in that. If we were doing a show on the great movies I’ve passed on, we would need two nights.” A source confirmed that Pitt turned down the Neo role that went to Keanu Reeves.

GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE---VANITY FAIR commented on the reboot movie, “[Bill] Murray was definitely on the set at various times during that week last fall, as were Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, reprising their respective roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore. Also visiting the location during that those days were Annie Potts the long-suffering receptionist Janine Melnitz and Sigourney Weaver who played frequent malevolence magnet Dana Barrett.”

PARASITE---Bong Joon-Ho commented on a possible plot for the HBO miniseries based on his movie, “For example when the original housekeeper Moon-Gwang (Lee Jung-Eun) comes back in the late-night, something happened to her face. Even her husband asked about it but she never answered. I know why she had the bruises on her face. I have a story for that and aside from that why does she know the existence of this bunker? What relationship does she have with that architect to know of this bunker? So I have all these hidden stories that I have stored."

DOCTOR WHO---Jodie Whittaker confirmed she is returning for Season 13, “Yes, I’m doing another season. That might be a massive exclusive that I’m not supposed to say, but it’s unhelpful for me to say [I don’t know] because it would be a massive lie!… I absolutely adore it. At some point, these shoes are going to be handed on, but it’s not yet. I’m clinging on tight!”

AMERICAN CRIME STORY: IMPEACHMENT---Betty Gilpin (GLOW) will play Ann Coulter in the FX series about the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky sex scandal.

MEGA MAN---movie underway based on the video game with Mattson Tomlin (THE BATMAN) as the writer.

MEAN GIRLS---Paramount Pictures movie underway based on the Broadway musical.

TRIVIA---Kate Burton's first movie role was journalist Margo Litzenberger in BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. Burton's father is Richard Burton.

Reported all the original cast did their scenes already and it didn't take long, leading credence to the theory this is nothing more than a pass-the-baton film. I don't expect to see much of them in the film.

"MEAN GIRLS---Paramount Pictures movie underway based on the Broadway musical."

That western is a funny subject for a musical.

Goodness, just leave Bladerunner alone already.
Only in Hollywood do they make a sequel that loses $100 million and the director says, "yeah, let's do it again"

I've invented a new program, it's called the Hollywood Bullshit Translator.

So, I turned the crank until it ran and poured in liquid Schwartz, and adjusted the vertical and horizontal hold and came up with the translation:

"I don't have an original idea, but I know the original film has the potential to be a cash cow, however I also know I can't write and make something even close to the original and will likely piss off the fans by ruining established characters, so I'll just set it elsewhere in the Blade Runner universe so I can get away with making crap. But people will still go and see the crap anyway. And that is the target audience I am counting on."

One of the unspoken reasons Uncle Owen didn't like Obi-Wan (apart from the obvious one that Owen & Beru didn't want Obi-Wan's past to taint Luke's future) was that long ago, when Luke was still in little Jedi-diapers, Owen had a sister that fell in love with Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan did his best to discourage her, but through misfortune and circumstance as a result of her feelings, the sister died.
Owen carried that resentment around with him ever since.

There's your movie.
You're welcome.

BLADE RUNNER 3: another 100M+ dollar flop idea in the making.
DOCTOR WHO: please spare us this misery again.
MEAN GIRLS: was that NOT filmed before?
Is Kate Burton sister to Jack Burton?

A more literal version of 'Do Androids Dream...' would be interesting.

Shame, because ai think she is rubbish in the role. Nice eye candy for sure but not rest actress and her voice is very annoying.

The scripts are rubbish, 30 minutes of “mystery” and then a quick, usually uninventive cop-out solution. Add to that how ridiculously woke the show is (black guy with mental health issues, pakistani copper, mixed race couple - amazed we haven’t had to put up with a a bloody LGBTQ character yet although give it time) . Honestly who watches this shit? Apparently less and less if the ratings are to believed.

What a dreadful idea.

I cannot convey in words how much your assessment means to me.
And the fact that you joined here just today makes your carefully thought-out opinion all the more valuable.
I noticed that your other posts so far are all just as equally insightful and that is in mighty short supply sometimes around here.

It's like I always say, when you have something to convey always have some informed reasoning to back it up.
My thanks.

The fact you have no words to respond to me doesn’t surprise me. The fact that you think that, because I have only joined FSM today somehow makes your opinion more valid than mine is laughable.

You want “informed reasoning”? Oh i’m so sorry. I should perhaps have said your idea would make great fan fiction for Star Wars fanzines aimed at 13 year olds but as an actual concept it’s rubbish and i’m guessing you haven’t ever sold a professional screenplay. There, does that help your ego?

PS Please translate your last paragraph into English. “that is in mighty short supply sometimes around here” doesn’t make sense. Which is odd considering how superior you seem to be.

Oh, we have a live one here!
First assignment, learn to understand what tongue-in-cheek is.
It's a toughie, but I have faith you can do it.

Hmm.
Or maybe not.
You didn't perceive it in my first post, and then you didn't perceive it in my response.
I guess your next few posts will show for certain...

Blade Runner- Its a niche of a niche of the Sci Fi genre. Stop trying to make it into something profitable.
Obi-Wan- How does he take care of a young Luke when Luke didn't know who he was in A NEW HOPE?
Doctor Who- Its rather disturbing that digging your own grave is preferable than course correction in the entertainment business nowadays.

That's for sure.
And looking closely at someone's writing style is usually a pretty reliable "tell"--not to mention registering and coming out with the post-crapping right off the bat, rather than joining a conversation with some pleasant and insightful contributions.
New recruits or sock-puppets... hard to tell them apart, sometimes. big grin
