SEASON 1:

All loads in this thread are in Russian(?) unless otherwise noted.

I don't recall having seen an episode of the series before, except some previous skimming to hear scoring. However, the composer roster and years of the show, speaks for itself, so here I go!

The series theme is by: Dick DeBenedictis (who also scores episodes, too). He actually is second place in the amount of episodes done, but I couldn't fit his name into the thread title without having no room for "others" or "+"; the only other option was the one I didn't want to do: "Babcock, and others".

If I were compiling a set of season two scoring, I'd only include the first cue. Obviously I'd skip the rest of the episode score.

Guest-starring Gianni Russo, who was in the second "The Godfather" film. Funny his name should come up; just about a month ago I listened to an hour long interview he did on the Brian Kilmeade radio show. Promoting his book Hollywood Godfather: Life in the Movies and the Mob, he told many kinds of stories on how he worked for the mob in real life, had a relations with Marilyn Monroe, was there was one mob boss told then not President John Kennedy "You're dead", and Hollywood stories. I heard it in December, but I can't seem to locate a podcast.

  • 42:50 in.
  • 44:21 in.

I have to say, Father Dowling is wonderfully played by the late Tom Bosley (who died in 2010); he looks like a father of a church, is believable when he heads scriptures and is quite engaging. Can you imagine a Father Dowling/Columbo/Matlock crossover?

  • 32:57 in.
  • 34:00 in.
  • 40:35 in.
  • 43:10 in. Short, simple, but nice.

    * = Finally! A doctor in an episode of a TV series who recognizes somebody as not working there. I'm not saying it's outside the realm of possibility you can not recognize everybody in a hospital floor you work on, but it's unlikely.

I have a weird story to tell in this regard. A few weeks ago somebody told me about how several years ago one of the two large hospitals here had to wind up paying to a security guard to patrol the building because somebody was living in an area of the hospital, using the bathroom and cleaning up there, too. Nobody noticed for years. Somebody would sometimes inquire with him and he'd say he was waiting for somebody. It paid off for years.

Lolita Ritmanis is listed as a composer on BMI and/or ASCAP; normally I bring this up when done with a show, but this is the second episode I have seen so far where I think she contributed simply because I hear "Batman: The Animated Series". I think the other episode was also a Babcock-scored one.

There is a cue in a montage suite from the show on Babcock's Orchestral Music for Film promo, titled "Christmas Morning", so I assume it's from this episode. I do not have the promo handy. It's very likely the first cue I cited, but that doesn't take place during Christmas morning, in fact, the whole episode takes place on Christmas Eve. Just an improperly-named cue.

I highly advise anybody here seek out the promo; fantastic television work and a symphony piece that's fantastic (he said in an interview he got in trouble for including it without permission from the orchestra).

    ADDITIONAL/UNCREDITED/STOCK MUSIC COMPOSERS:

Culled from BMI and ASCAP. In no special order:

  • Dean DeBenedictis.
  • Terry Woodson.
  • C.R. Cassey. (also listed as a music supervisor on most, if not all, the episodes)
  • Michael Lang. (the sessions pianot, and rare composer)
  • Mark McKenzie. (listed alone and also listed with Rosenbaum)
  • Albert Olson. (listed with Kempel)
  • Maurice Hargrove. (listed with DeBenedictis)
  • R. Marvin. (I assume this is Richard Marvin)
  • Lolita Ritmanis.
  • Christopher Kaltman.
  • Christopher Page. (has worked with Kempel before, so I assume that's who he worked with on the show, even though not paired with anybody)
  • Michael J. Linn.
  • Harvey R. Cohen. (that's three "Batman: The Animated Series" composers total)
  • Lloyd F. Cooper
