In the last week I have watched four movies in which the protagonist has found someone murdered and picked up the murder weapon laying beside them. Next thing that happens is that someone else comes into the room and finds said protagonist with gun/knife in hand stooping over the dead body and they, naturally, assume that he is the killer, scream etc and the protagonist runs off. Its ridiculous. This tends to happen more in older movies, but just today I watched Blue Sunshine (1977) and it happened in that movie... Twice! Has anyone else noticed this, and does anyone have more recent examples?

Also please remember FSMers... If ever you find anyone dead DO Not touch anything resembling a murder weapon lying nearby.

The Perry Mason TV series ('57-'66) has been my "comfort food" television show in recent years; I end up watching it most nights. That's pretty much the set up for every single episode -- along with the hapless defendant exclaiming in public to the soon-to-be-victim, "Given half a chance, I'd kill you !!"

Fortunately, also in almost every episode, the real killer spontaneously jumps up during the trial and shouts out a confession.

Not recent, but the Star Trek episode Wolf in the Fold.

Scotty has the murder weapon in his hand when the women are killed by the Jack-The-Ripper entity.

Great comment, you beat me to it! wink

I watch Perry most nights as well, and I've gotten so familiar with most episodes that I watch now more to catch those kind of things. I like to take mental notes of which actors were on the show most frequently, how their characters differed from one episode to another and how often different ones were the villain(s).
Also, some of the actresses were very lovely. I remember watching the show when I was a young boy and I always had an eye for those women that were 15 - 20 years older than me back then.

It only took three posts to turn this into a Star Trek thread.

Gene Wilder in Hanky Panky. Grabs the dying girl and the gun out of her hand in front of about 10 people. Instantly accused of murder.

Cary Grant, NORTH BY NORTHWEST. I always found his reaction in front of all those witnesses to be just a shade comedic, as if the amateur director was just starting out and didn't know how to handle the tone. Probably one of those Hitchcock wannabes.

Hahaha... , yeah, the director, whatever his name was again, tried to have fun with a lot of Hitchcock staples, like the innocently accused, the cool blonde, etc., there is no denying Hitch's influence. To be fair though, that murder happened so close, no wonder he had the knife in his hand, the body practically fell on him.
