Home Alone 2 - It's better than the first, and contains all the highlights from the first.

Scrooge! (Leslie Bricuisse) - This thing just oozes Christmas atmosphere. I don't even particularly like musicals, but this one just has a sound.

A Christmas Story - Zittrer and Zaza didn't reinvent the wheel, but they did capture classic
Christmas tones and the fun of childhood perfectly.

Santa Claus The Movie - Mancini made an epic that wears its heart on its sleeve, without shame.

Gremlins - Not really "Christmassy" sounding, but I give it a spin every December. In fact, I just played it today. Make it Shine!

I'm no fan of musicals either, but "Paint Your Wagon", "Scrooge" (both owned by the same company) and the second version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" are my favorites.

Legend

Oh, yes! Definitely!

My other four favorites, not just because of a Christmas setting but due to their fairy tale mood:

- HOME ALONE 1 & 2 (John Williams)
- THE LORD OF THE RINGS (Leonard Rosenman)
- WALKABOUT (John Barry)
- THE LIGHT AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD (Piero Piccioni)

From this this 'Old Codger from the UK'

Home Alone.
Ben Hur
The King of Kings
It's a Wonderful Life.
Spartacus.

Make what you will, but there is some some good shit here... and these scores are always annoying the neighbours and the wife this time of Year.

Happy Christmas and New year to all you soundtrack aficionado's out there and hope Father Christmas leaves you one or two soundtrack CD's.

Now I'm laughing out loud while sitting at home with a glass of fine red wine, listening to quoet, somber music and my wife gives me the WTF look. Your fault!

Glad to see you mentioning Addinsell's A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Basil, (originally titled SCROOGE in Great Britain). It's a masterpiece full of too many riches to be done justice by that brief suite which has been put on two CD's, (the David Newman album and the Chandos Addinsell anthology). And good on you for including O. HENRY'S FULL HOUSE. You know how much that one means to me from reading my liner notes for Kritzerland. (And I hope you agree with me that O. HENRY and LUCK OF THE IRISH complement each other very well.)
