NEW EPISODE

INTERVIEW WITH LEIGH PHILLIPS - PART TWO

http://www.cinematicsound.net/talking-soundtracks-interview-leigh-phillips-2/

Leigh Phillips is a composer, orchestrator, and producer with experience in creating unique compositions and orchestrations for media, concert performances, and CD recordings.

In May 2023 for TALKING SOUNDTRACKS ON THE CINEMATIC SOUND PODCAST, Jason Drury had the pleasure of talking to Leigh Phillips from his home in Prague.

In part one of our two-part conversation Leigh discussed his musical roots, how he got into orchestration work and score reconstruction, and how he began his association with James Fitzpatrick and Tadlow Records.

Part two discusses his work on Goldsmith re-recordings such as BLACK PATCH and GENERAL ELECTRIC THEATRE, his thoughts on film music today, and his fears about the employment of artificial intelligence in future film soundtracks.

As with part one, you will hear music that Leigh Phillips has orchestrated or composed just for these events to highlight his immense talent.

Enjoy!

BUTE ISLAND RADIO UNAIRED EPISODE 2 – ADVENTURE FILMS

http://www.cinematicsound.net/bute-island-radio-unaired-episode-2-adventure-films/

Today I present to you the second episode of my new show for BUTE ISLAND RADIO. When I was producing the show, I had no idea what was going on behind the scenes and really had no idea that once I finished this episode, it wouldn’t be aired. Well, lucky for you, as today you get to hear that unaired episode.

For this second episode, which was to air on Wednesday, August 30th, I wanted to present music from INDIANA JONES AND THE DAIL OF DESTINY, which debuted on digital that very day! In addition, I wanted to play some music from other adventure scores.

So, on the program today, you’ll hear selections from INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY (Williams), THE ADVENTURES OF DON JUAN (Steiner), KING SOLOMON’S MINES (Goldsmith), ASTE´RIX AUX JEUX OLYMPIQUES (Talgorn) and MICKEY, DONALD, GOOFY: THE THREE MUSKETEERS (Broughton).

Enjoy!

CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO has been around for 27 years. Our anniversary is this month.

To learn more about CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, which started out on college radio and has grown into a network of film music podcasts, see our ABOUT page below!

http://www.cinematicsound.net/about-cinematic-sound-radio/

Thanks to all of you who have listened to the program over the years. While my production has decreased over the years, you have stuck with me through thick and thin. Even though I think about "hanging them up" a few times each year, you always inspire me to keep going.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to listen.

Cheers,

-Erik-

Thank you so much. I hope I can make it that far. I bought a nice retirement home in Newfoundland and know exactly where my studio will be when I'm 74... if I even make it that far! I'd love to still be presenting some of the best film music around for your enjoyment while looking out my studio window onto the calm waters of Boat Harbour, Newfoundland!

UPDATE!

Server problems have been resolved, and the backlog of episodes is finally being uploaded, beginning with Jason Drury's chat with Panu Aaltio. A big thanks to my good friend Sean Speiran for getting things resolved.

----

INTERVIEW WITH PANU AALTIO
http://www.cinematicsound.net/talking-soundtracks-interview-panu-aaltio/

Today’s guest on TALKING SOUNDTRACKS has composed music for more than thirty feature films, several TV shows, video games, and a lengthy ballet performed by the Finnish National Opera. His name is Panu Aaltio.

Panu is most recognized for his poignant work on major nature documentaries, but his lyrical orchestral sound has also adorned dramatic scores, including SUPER FURBALL SAVES THE FUTURE and the exciting Baltic Sea adventure FINDERS OF THE LOST YACHT.

Another of his recent projects is 5000 Blankets, released in the US at the end of 2022, which follows the story of a woman and her young son, who set out to find her husband when he goes missing after having a mental breakdown, which sparks a movement in their city.

Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Panu via cleanfeed in Helsinki, Finland, at the end of January 2023. They discussed his work for television and film, his award-winning music for nature documentaries, his aspirations for the future, and of course, his amazing score for 5000 BLANKETS.

Enjoy!

THE ARCHIVE WITH JASON DRURY: A TRIBUTE TO MIKE ROSS-TREVOR

https://www.cinematicsound.net/the-archive-with-jason-drury-tribute-to-mike-ross-trevor/

On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the film music community lost one of its greatest recording engineers, Mike Ross-Trevor. His collaborations with composers such as Jerry Goldsmith and Bruce Broughton have become legendary in the film music world.

Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Mike in February 2018 for the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST.

It was with great sadness that Jason learned of Mike’s passing since he had many happy recollections of their interview and Mike has remained a close friend.

So, Jason decided to produce a new program by utilizing remastered interview clips from 2018 and by playing some of the fantastic music that Mike was associated with. To give the program a distinct and intimate feel, Mike Ross-Trevor will be the only voice heard throughout, narrating his own recording career and sharing a few memories of the amazing sessions he worked on.

Enjoy!

TALKING SOUNDTRACKS: INTERVIEW WITH DYNAMIC MUSIC PARTNERS
https://www.cinematicsound.net/talking-soundtracks-interview-dynamic-music-partners/
https://linktr.ee/cinematicsoundradio

BABYLON 5: THE ROAD HOME, which features Emmy-winning composers Lolita Ritmanis, Kristopher Carter, and Michael McCuistion of DYNAMIC MUSIC PARTNERS, has been nominated for Best Music – TV/Media at the 2024 ANNIE AWARDS. Ritmanis, Carter, and McCuistion are the first composers to write music for the series since the original composer, Christopher Franke.

The score intricately weaves driving rhythms and powerful motifs that resonate with the essence of the sci-fi narrative. Ritmanis, Carter, and McCuistion combine traditional orchestral elements with contemporary sounds to create the futuristic and otherworldly atmosphere of the BABYLON 5 franchise. From thrilling action sequences to poignant character moments, the score serves as a vital storyteller, enhancing every scene..

Ritmanis, Carter, and McCuistion have collectively earned a total of twenty-eight EMMY AWARD nominations and now seven ANNIE AWARD nominations as composers for series such as MARVEL’S AVENGERS ASSEMBLE, BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, JUSTICE LEAGUE, TEEN TITANS, BATMAN BEYOND, THE ZETA PROJECT and THE NEW BATMAN SUPERMAN ADVENTURES.

For TALKING SOUNDTRACKS in February 2024, Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Lolita, Michael, and Kristopher via Zoom at their respective studios in California. During the conversation, we discussed BABYLON 5: THE ROAD HOME, how DYNAMIC MUSIC PARTNERS formed, their respective projects, and where it all began, BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES, which was bought together by their mentor, the late great Shirley Walker.

Throughout the show, Jason will play excerpts of their excellent music, the majority of which was picked by the composers themselves.

Enjoy!
