So early tomorrow morning I'm taking my Hyundai Elantra on the road and heading west to the Max Steiner Symposium at BYU. Should be fun and informative. Symposium takes place November 1st and 2nd. Here's a link to registration:

Utah always makes for an interesting conversation. Throw in something about Max Steiner and it gets even better. Maybe Ray and James D'Arc can finalize plans on their next CD release.??

What would you say is Max Steiner's best melody? His best cue?

I'm going to suggest The Fountainhead theme, and "Jungle Dance" (King Kong).

TREASURE OF SIERRA MADRE

If there wasn't THE CAINE MUTINY , TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE would be my choice.

"Conference Events
The 2019 Symposium is held the same weekend as the world premiere of the BYU Philharmonic performing the score King Kong live to film. The program will include the following feature events:
World premiere of the reconstructed score to King Kong (reconstructed by John Morgan and Bill Stromberg) performed by the BYU Philharmonic (conducted by Kory Katseanes)"

Wasn't this score already reconstructed in the late 1970s for the Fred Steiner recording?

Best themes: Key Largo, All this and Heaven Too, Rome Adventure

Ray,

Have a safe journey and a wonderful time at the symposium. I'm now watching THE BEAST WITH FIVE FINGERS on the MOVIES! channel.

HELEN OF TROY or KING RICHARD AND THE CRUSADERS are my favorite Seiners.

My favorite melody is the "teen theme" from A SUMMER PLACE.

Have a good trip Ray, I know you will enjoy it.

As Cody said, hopefully you and James can plan one more Max Steiner CD! smile

Last night we enjoyed the first public showing of Diana Friedberg's forthcoming documentary MAX STEINER - MAESTRO OF MOVIE MUSIC. John Morgan, Diana, Bill Stromberg and I were all happy campers afterwards.

Looking ahead PFK , we now have a 3 disc box set of Max Steiner's Film Noir and Max Steiner's Westerns. What genre could BYU be tackling next regarding Max Steiner ?

There's too many to choose from, but one I've been partial to these last couple years is his main title for Mildred Pierce.

Just a suggestion for the next Max Steiner 3CD set from BYU and Chelsea Rialto: Max Steiner Americana Scores:

SPENCER'S MOUNTAIN. 19 minutes confirmed to exist.
THE ADVENTURES OF MARK TWAIN
DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS
ICE PALACE
Anybody wish to add some titles to the above four ?
