THE WAR OF THE WORLDS---Gabriel Byrne commented on the eight-part miniseries based on the HG Wells novel set in the modern day, “[The show’s] aliens are almost metaphorical. They could be climate change, or the nuclear apocalypse or the unpredictability of war – they’re all of those things.” The miniseries, which also stars Elizabeth McGovern, is not to be confused with the upcoming BBC miniseries. DREDD---Alex Garland said he is not interested in returning for a possible sequel, “No. It was a pretty crude experience, for a bunch of reasons. At the end of it, I didn’t want to go back. I love DREDD by which I mean I love the character, but I”m not in any hurry to do that again.” WALKER---CW ordered the reboot of the Jared Padalecki tv series based on the WALKER, TEXAS RANGER series that starred Chuck Norris and Sheree J. Moore wanted to star in THE DAY OF THE JACKAL based on the Frederick Forsythe novel about an assassin who has targeted French president Charles De Gaulle. However, director Fred Zinneman chose Fox. Moore said, “I wanted to do the Jackal, and John Woolf, who was producing, liked the idea. But Freddy Zinnemann, the director, didn’t like me at all.” Two years later, Moore ran into Zinnerman and asked, “Why wouldn’t you want me?” Zinnemann replied, “You’re too well-known. And you can’t walk through a crowd and not be noticed. You don’t look ordinary.” Moore agreed, “He was absolutely right.” Zinneman later admitted that not picking a major star for the movie was a factor in the movie's disappointing box office. Moore was supposed to play Lt. Gen. Brian Horrocks in A BRIDGE TOO FAR based on the Cornelius Ryan book about Operation Market Garden, the disastrous Allied invasion of Holland in World War II. However, Moore had a schedule problem with THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, and Horrocks wanted his friend, Edward Fox for the role, not Moore. Roger Moore wanted to star in THE DAY OF THE JACKAL, but director Fred Zinneman wanted a lesser-known actor and chose Edward Fox for the role of the assassin. Moore lost a second role, Lt. Gen. Brian Horrocks in A BRIDGE TOO FAR, to Fox when he had a schedule problem with THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. Horrocks wanted his friend, Fox, for the role. Moore and Barbara Bach starred in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME.

Sir Rog ended up taking the role of "Prime Minister Simon Hopeworthy" in Michael Winner's Hell into Belfast (1973). Ironically, Edward Fox should have been in that film, but had a scheduling conflict with--you guessed it--The Day of the Jackal.
