Zwar   (Member) I finally saw this on Sunday and must say I enjoyed it quite a bit. Gorgeously looking movie, and I very much liked that it was a mix of b-movie and high-concept science-fiction, with lunar pirates, killer apes, and philosophic ponderance. Great performance by Tommy Lee Jones, though one should point out that (SPOILER ALERT): even if the data retrieved from the Lima Project base suggest that humans are the only intelligent life in the galaxy... there are billions and billions of galaxies... so it would not mean there is no other intelligent life in the Universe. The Universe is big, really big... even way to big for the Lima project to have mapped. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big the Universe is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space. ;-)    Posted:   Sep 20, 2022 - 8:23 AM     By:   Warlok   (Member) I enjoyed this film, but with a caveat. The caveat being it is ultimately quite depressing, and kind of in the same 'warding' category as Apocalypse Now. The failure to find any evidence of other life in the universe - albeit restricted to vantage points within our solar system - was depressing, but a lesson for coming to terms with that finite/time-limited reality (we'll find life, eventually). The decrepit commercialization of everything Man touches was similarly sad... yet as of now quite likely. As for the "monkey" incident and similar, they did not strike me as "B movie". Of couse, since much of the theme involves involuntary technological imposition on the individual, it will clash with the tastes of the many technology/media addicts who don't like the little hint of contempt it throws at them. A great sleep aid though. I was falling asleep during this movie and I NEVER fall asleep during movie theater movies (and I love space movies!), but to each their own. P.S.
