I recently got the original album, and listening to it now for the first time ever (I needed to boost my Holdridge collection a little bit). It is indeed a splendid score, but just perfect the way it is -- sound, performance, curation of cues, length. I always thought it was a western based on the title, but appears it's a romantic adventure film -- and Ennio Morricone was supposed to have scored it, but left to do CINEMA PARADISO instead! (just reading it off of Wikipedia). It's not normally a sound I gravitate towards anymore (those big, lush, traditional orchestral thingies), but if it's from the past, from a certain period in time (80s and 90s), I can get down with it still.
