It turns out we are getting an expanded and remastered reissue of Lee Holdridge's Old Gringo! I just had the following exchange with Jon Broxton on FB, in response to his cool new review of the score as part of his Throwback Thirty series on Movie Music UK:

Yavar: Love this score and would buy an expanded reissue...I worry GNP Crescendo might hold the rights though and I don't think they'd find it worthwhile to pursue, since it's not Star Trek.

Jon: Lee himself just replied to one of my other posts about this. He says "BSX records, through their Dragon's Domain subsidiary, is planning a completely re-mastered CD, with many additional tracks that were left off the original CD. The remastering sounds amazing, wait until you hear it!"

Yavar: OMG! That's fantastic news! I know that the BSX/Dragon's Domain guys got their start at GNP over a quarter century ago, so I guess if anyone could/would do it, it would be them.
I always thought the sound could be improved too so this is really amazing news.

Thought other Holdridge fans might like to know...

Fantastic news.
This has always been a favourite score by Lee Holdridge for me.
Such a masterful work. It just oozes class.
I'll be first in line to buy an upgraded expansion (I imagine James Nelson worked his magic on this one).
Thanks for sharing the great news Yavar. smile

Neat! Although it's a long shot, I hope that this can generate momentum for a premiere release of Vangelis' "The Plague", another film by Luis Puenzo (the director of Old Gringo)

This is fabulous news indeed!

I have fond memories of this film and score, not least because - if I can blow my own horn a moment - Lee Holdridge was so taken with my SOUNDTRACK review of the Crescendo score CD that he actually took the trouble to call me in order to discuss it!

That his warmth and humanity equals his formidable talent as a composer is the greatest praise I can offer. I only wish those talents were put to greater use when it comes to present day film scoring ...

Fantastic score and will happily purchase it. I hope they fix the reversed channels of that GNP release.

I hope someone gives them a heads up about that! smile It may not be too late, even if they were unaware up until now...

I would imagine they'd notice when they were assembling the album. If someone can't notice channels reversed they shouldn't be allowed in the booth!

And yet, how many soundtrack albums have reversed channels?

I wouldn't assume; I'd shoot them a quick note and double check, if you're willing. (Or maybe they'll read this here thread, hopefully...)

I hope we eventually get Mr. Mom, a score that was never released at all.

Good news ! I love Holdridge. I'm in for this one. I hope there will be a lot of music missing from the original recording.

This is really a wonderful score and deserves a revisit. One of Holdridge's finest, and that is saying something.
