My next TCM recommendation marks the only time Australian actor George Lazenby appeared in the title role: On Her Majesty's Secret Service, probably the most action filled, enthusiastic and well-crafted entry in the entire Bond franchise! #6 in the series was reviewed briefly when the film was presented at an annual TCM film festival here

I also penned a tribute to this film's director here

You know what?
Even though "Live And Let Die" is my personal favorite, I think I would tend to agree with you.

If it wasn't for that daft 4th-wall-break at the beginning, though...

LALD????!!!!!!!!

Crazy, I know.
Say what you will about LALD, but the fact is that Roger Moore never looked at the camera and cracked wise about the previous actors/plots.

I actually like the remark about the "other fellow"; one of the funnier Bond in-jokes... smile

Oh, I know it's meant as a lighthearted wink and all, but it just makes me sort of groan.

I watched it tonight, and the "other fella" remark, when he looks right at the camera and smiles for a split second before fade-out, reminded me of Christopher Reeve at the end of SUPERMAN. I'm not in favor of it in either case.

He never had to. One look AT Roger Moore got the joke across. At least he never conveyed 'Bond action hero' for me.

Best Bond is/was Connery. Best Saint is/was Moore.

Moore's Bond films are very entertaining. No one's pretending he has the beefiness required for the role, but then neither did David Niven and that's who Ian Fleming preferred to play the part, so it would seem the author preferred more suavity than brawn. Certainly Niven is closer to Moore to my mind than Connery, and definitely not the thuggish appearance we get from Daniel Craig.

Moore seemed too old or stiff for the part. Craig is the other extreme, reminds me Ed Woodward as CALLAN.

Having just watched OHMSS and DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER back to back on TCM, I have to say, Lazenby wasn't fully formed and substantive yet, but very decent. And Connery didn't exactly pour his heart into DAF; he was practically phoning it in.

I think it's ironic that DAF made more money of the two, when OHMSS was by far the better film.

If only Sean did 0007 in OHMSS.
What a classic that would have been.

I have this fantasy where cgi can replace George with Sean.
If only.....
