I didn't see a thread on this but I wanted to discuss it here and encourage everyone to listen. These guys are remarkably knowledgeable and entertaining as they walk through scores. I've learned a great deal about so many things listening to these episodes, and the personalities of the three hosts is really engaging. I'll forgive them for their missteps on the Blade Runner score (I'm sorry I didn't send them my reconstruction before they did the episode), but they more than make up for it with their other episodes. I'm hoping they take on Goldsmith soon. So many possibilities.

I second that!!
I'm totally addicted to this podcast. Having composers/conductors/musicians analyzing movie score is a real delight. And they're really funny.

This is my #1 favorite film music podcast...aside from The Goldsmith Odyssey, of course. wink

I highly recommend their coverage of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, in particular.

There's definitely a thread about this already, but hell of I can find it - even using Google. I definitely like the podcast, but want them to get beyond Star Wars and stuff. I did like their Azkaban episode(s?) because it brought out many themes or cues that I didn't even NOTICE somehow.

Yeah it's about time they covered a Goldsmith score, isn't it??

I like their Star Wars coverage though, and I hope they do Return of the Jedi before too long. It's just that they don't put out a new episode with all that much regularity, and when they do two or three parts on each score...

These guys are fantastic! At the top or very, very near it. I imagine they tend to cover more popular scores because those are the ones that Nicholas Buc is most familiar with after having conducted them. But it's all gold. I have to really have zero interest in a score (ahem, Blade Runner) to skip an episode.

Even if you don't like the Blade Runner score, I think you'd enjoy their coverage of it. smile

As with Yavar, my favourite podcast is my own (celluloidtunes.no), but I like the idea of dedicating an entire episode to a single score. I have that planned too, but not on the consistent level as they do. Every once in a while.

Art of the Score is on a level all their own. Others come very, very close - Underscore, Kinotes, The Goldsmith Odyssey and SideShow Sound Theatre are excellent as well - while some on the flipside (a few of the bigger ones) either don't have the knowledge base or WORSE... talk down to their audience, which is INCREDIBLY annoying.

And there's the rest of us in the middle.

Would it be possible to indicate on what platforms all the referenced podcasts are available on please? I've found some but not all on Spotify and others on Google podcasts, but some can't find anywhere. It's strange how some are only available on certain platforms.........

I didn't see a thread on this...

Graham updates and retitles this thread every time a new episode comes out:

We’ve discussed some things a bit (esp. the conspicuous absence of Goldsmith), but usually i’m left a bit overwhelmed after one of their casts. In a good way of course!

Does anyone know the status of Art of the Score, and why they haven't put out a new episode since October of 2021? I really hope they aren't defunct... one of my favorite podcasts of all time.

Yavar- I emailed them a month ago asking when their next one will be….so far no response.
It's also one of my favorites.

@ArtoftheScore: "We’ve been returning LIVE. Does that count? No?"

I'm very glad they're there.

What does that mean?

There's basically doing a LIVE version of their show before concerts.

And they're not recording them? That seems like a missed opportunity. A great show.

I just don’t understand why they aren’t recording and releasing those on their podcast, as they did with Arrival.

Ah, I see. Thanks, Erik.

I guess the response to them should be "Yes, and no, each meant in the most complimentary ways."
