Really sad this is a bare bones release. I would love to see in-depth background into the production of the film. From the opening computer graphics, model work and animation as well as early production design.
Regarding picture quality I saw a digital version of the film and the matte lines are completely absent making me think they cleaned up the film. Doesn't sound like the case here. Maybe there's two versions, one cleaned up for digital streaming, the other more faithful to the original film as seen in the theaters.
'Note that the "absence" of the film's overture is causing quite the stir with fans; apparently Disney has included the overture on the disc but it's essentially inaccessible without running some end-arounds.'
I saw this recently-ish on Turner Classic Movies or some such.
I recall it looking pretty spectacular- only a bit of grain in some of the high-element-count composite shots, and only a bit of visible wire-work (clothing pull, mostly, but also the odd robot shot).
I was highly impressed with the cable broadcast version.
...and how about a reasonable price? eBay prices of $60 are not gonna happen for me for a bare bones version. Why must Disney torture us like this?!
Like I said they treat their properties terribly with total disregard for the consumer base. You have to go thru hoops to get a niche item and then they provide a shoddy product in return.
