Exciting. Loved the score for the latest movie.

Still hoping a Lost Themes III gets announced soon. I've gotten used to a new Carpenter album every year (which is insane).

This is somewhat old news, but I'll chime in anyway. Hollywood just can't leave well enough alone can they? So TPTB believe there's enough story to milk two back to back sequels? When the previous installment (Halloween: H40), which I didn't dislike at all, barely had any juice left to continue the franchise, imo. Don't care how ambiguous Michael's fate was at the end of H40 that should've been it for the franchise. There's only so many Laurie Strode and Michael Myers final showdowns (and Michael Myers sequels/reboots for that matter) I can take. Hopefully the makers of these back to back sequels put more thought into the story and movies than those lame titles. Even the title for the previous film was plain lazy.

However, one thing I'm looking forward to with the sequels is Carpenter's involvement in the scores. And yes bring on Lost Themes III. That'll hold us over until then.

To be fair, Green and McBride have talked about the fact that they had planned the story this way from the beginning. They just didn't want to put much spotlight on it because they were so worried about how well H40 would be accepted.

But, to your point, yes, I also don't like how nothing can seem to stand on its own anymore. It has to be trilogy, franchise, etc from the jump. Le sigh.

Still Carpenter's score for H40 was brilliant and for me has only gotten better on many repeated HBO viewings, so I'm excited he's involved. And despite H40 being, IMHO, pretty uneven, what it got right -- basically the DNA of the universe, and miraculously making Michael formidable and threatening again -- it got REALLY right and provides hope for where they might take the next two films.

Halloween 2018 wasn't perfect, but I got a lot out of it. I thought Laurie looking for Michael near the end was really tense in a way that slasher movies almost never are. It was also anchored by a terrific performance from Jamie Lee Curtis - there's one scene in particular where she mentions to her granddaughter that she was an honour's student, and she really is Laurie in that moment, not Jamie Lee Curtis, and I found that scene quite moving.

Yeah, the Sartain stuff doesn't land at all, and little things like the sandwich cops should have been ditched, but this is the eleventh movie in the franchise, and for it to be well-acted, well-shot, sometimes tense, sometimes moving... I think that's quite an achievement.

Any when people are either currently complaining that Tom Holland playing Spider-Man five times in the last three years isn't enough or trying to dissect meaning from the title of the twenty-fifth Bond movie, the eleventh Michael Myers movie in 42 years seems almost fresh!

I like these titles, by the way. Pure 'B-movie' fun.

Aww man, I loved that bit! I loved that Green and McBride were able to inject a little of their goofy personality into it. HALLOWEEN isn't known for really any levity at all so I liked getting some variations in tone. Even the annoying kid was kind of funny. But especially the Ray character, who seems to exist in his own universe. Toby Huss was on an episode of the "I Was There Too" podcast and talked specifically about Green (an old pal) inviting him in and letting him improvise a lot of his stuff. On first viewing it took me out of it because he felt so cut off from everything else going on, but after more viewings he's become one of my favorite parts of the movie specifically because he's so cut off from everything else going on. He's basically a very realistic dad who loves his family but doesn't want to be bothered. I love how it goofily dovetails into him just sort of wandering into Michael's path and his family not really paying attention to what happens to him.

The comedy worked for me apart from those cops. It made me like the kid who liked to dance, Julian and the babysitter immediately. I also thought the transition from comedy to horror during the light sensor scene was so effective. I liked Roy throughout, thought Judy Greer's Christmas sweater was hilarious and even the scene where Laurie accidentally whacks Will Patton's character made me laugh out loud.

But the cops? The joke just didn't land at all for me.

There are things that I liked about Halloween 2018 and there are many more things I disliked about it - mostly the comedy and the doctor nonsense.

Carpenter’s one piece of advice to the filmmakers was “keep it simple”

I hope they do that going forward. And I’m just happy to get more new music from him.

I'm sorry but I was very disappointed in Halloween 2018.
It would have helped if it were scary. For me the film played more like a crime drama held on Halloween night more so than a horror movie. Laurie Strode's part reminded me more of her actions in Halloween H20.
I liked the score except for the thumping disco beat added over the opening credits music. I'm not sure I like a horror score that leaves you tapping your toes and snapping your fingers. But that's just my opinion. I know there are many others that disagree with me.

I definitely prefer the film mix of 'The Shape Returns' which omits the beat.

Aren't THEY stabbing this thing to DEATH now....but I welcome the John Carpenter news!
I am hoping the next sequels to HALLOWEEN 2018 be an improvement 'cos I enjoyed more
fright thrills watching GOOSEBUMPS 2 which was duly lost in this fan-made re-incarnation, remake!
The Score from John Carpenter & co was awesome & a great addition to the franchise!
Hmm another viewing might change me!

Halloween 2018 was awesome and they did the most of it right. Didn´t like the Sartain looney bit , but they got Myers right and Laurie was better than in H20.
Most of the characters were good too, epecially that little kid and the babysitter, Will Pattons character and those two poddcasters

Carpenters score was great and the cutting and direction it took was good too.
