This board is so 'cutting edge'. Probably the only place on the internet where the news about a confirmed MATRIX 4 is not mentioned anywhere almost 24 hours later. big grin

In any case, the news is out. Lana Wachowski will direct. Will Don Davis return? I hope so, and I also hope the fantastic collab with Juno Reactor continues.

It’ll be Giacchino (just to spite you, Thor wink ). The Wachowski’s and Davis (among many other collaborators) had a major falling out after Revolutions. I can’t see Davis being asked to return.

It would be absolutely amazing to see Davis return to big movies! To be honest I don't see any other composer who could replace him in The Matrix.

I choose to ignore this big grin. Apart from the vague possibility of an other Don Davis-score (I agree with Erik), this sequel sounds like an awful idea.

That would be a shame. Hope they'll be able to mend their differences, even if it's a long shot. I'm also open to another composer collaborating with Juno if Davis falls through (Goldenthal would be another dream, but again an extreme long shot since he's turned his back on big Hollywood productions), but the thought of Giacchino freezes my blood to ice.

They've also worked with Johnny Klimek & Reinhold Heil on Cloud Atlas haven't they? I have the CD and the film, I haven't seen it yet, nor listened to the score. I've heard good things though.

Also my guess at the Matrix 4 plot in one dialogue sequence:

Trinity: "We're still in the Matrix."

Neo: "Whoa."

Belated sequels that no one asked for, without their original composers, are such a joke.

The Wachowski’s were stuck with Tykwer as the composer of Cloud Atlas because Tykwer was co-director. I don’t think Tykwer has the chops to do a Matrix score, IMO.

I love the trilogy but feel a fourth movie will only lend to subtraction. The theory that mass media has hit complete saturation that there is no new money to be made seems to be more factual with every passing franchise.

I would welcome Don Davis' return though. I enjoy Giacchino but I'm not big on shifting gears, after the fact.

Not sure how I was unaware of this after so many years! What happened? Were any details reported about what the falling out was over?

I watch a lot of pop culture YouTube channels on a daily basis and none of them broke the news. Kinda shows you how excited the world is for another Matrix movie.

I have the opposite experience. Social media feeds were filled with the news yesterday and today, as well as various film and culture platforms and messageboards.

If I may add please....

Neo: I still know Kung Ku.

And the plot for the new Matrix film- Gender swap! Tessa Thompson will be Morpheus. Mark my words!

I visit Dark Horizons everyday and no one there is talking about it. There had been news bits here and there previous to any official announcements. No doubt there will be more to talk about when there IS more to talk about. But a film score message board not stirring over a new Matrix film when there has yet to be ANY sort of suggestion of what the music will be is totally understandable.

Totally unnecessary sequel/reboot/whatever. Keanu seems to have a serious case of sequelitis with the upcoming Bill and Ted 3, John Wick 4, and now this. What's next Speed 3 (with Sandra Bullock returning) and a sequel to the original Point Break? This sequel will most likely pull a Halloween: H40 where it'll ignore the sequels but is only 20+ year follow up to the original. That would be the explanation as to why Reeves and Moss are returning if anyone remembers the fate of their characters in the last installment. It's very telling too that only one of the Wachowskis is returning as writer/director for this instead of both. Did they have a falling out or something too?

Speaking of falling outs. It's a pity if Davis and the Wachowskis had a falling out because The Matrix scores are some of the best scores in the genre, imo. A Matrix movie won't be the same without Davis composing the score, imo. So as much as I enjoy Giacchino's music I hope Davis returns instead. At this point Davis' score would be my only interest in this unnecessary sequel.

I'm sure Debney can create a very reasonable pastiche. Those two were knocking it out of the park on "SeaQuest: DSV".
