The program notes are out. Anyone going to Tanglewood this Saturday night? I'll be there.
The usual stuff, but more selections done to "film montages" than usual.

The "To Thornfield" selection from Jane Eyre is interesting, as every existing print of the film has that sequence cut out (I've looked at eight different VCRs and DVDs), so you can ONLY hear it on disc or in concert, but not in the film. I did see it when originally broadcast. Well, someday it may turn up.

My concert fantasy: A nice Extended Suite from HEARTBEEPS.
(aka John Williams conducts the lovely music from his biggest flop!)
I went to see it opening night just to hear his music. And I did. I was the ONLY ONE in the theater!

Nice to see Galaxy's Edge on this program. You have fun and enjoy the concert, Ron. I wonder if Williams will tease us about the latest Star Wars installment he is currently working on. It could be fun if he pulls a surprise and premiere's something from Episode 9.

Interesting to see the opening sequence of E.T. here. It’s not something I’d expect to see at a concert but it’s some of my all-time favorite film music.

It looks like the Hollywood Bowl program will follow this one in the manner, so it's nice to see more details, such as which cues from Jane Eyre will be performed. Also, interesting to know that for Jurassic Park it isn't listed as "Theme from", which I am used to seeing in past concerts, but instead as "Excerpts". Maybe this is a new suite arrangement of music from the film?

I'll be there. My friends canceled due to two of them being sick, so the hell with it. Without them, I'll be there at 5:30 when the gates open. Traffic in and out of Tanglewood is monstrous.

Enjoy! Regardless of the program, it's always a joy to hear it performed by the Boston Pops. The traffic and crowds for film night, not such a joy.

Also "Excerpts" from SAVING PRIVATE RYAN...will we finally hear some of the "Omaha Beach" music in concert?

I also love the propensity for programming "Galaxy's Edge" in concert. Its near-total absence from the land for which it was composed obligates him to publicize it however possible.

After attending Sunday night's concert at the Bowl, I can finally my own question as to those excerpts of Jurassic Park and Saving Private Ryan.

This was part of the 2nd half, when the LA Phil was joined by the Cal State chorus, for three specific pieces - those 2 aforementioned and also "Dry Your Tears, Afrika" from Amistad. For Jurassic Park, they performed the second half of "Journey to the Island" to picture, then moved on to the "island adventure" theme set to a montage. This was fun to see as just a few weeks prior I had seen the full Jurassic Park movie with live orchestra at the Bowl, but they had no choir! For Saving Private Ryan, the music for the opening sequence at Arlington Cemetary was performed to picture, followed by an abbreviated version of the main theme, set to a montage (in chronological order) from the movie.
