Any news on this Quartet re-recording yet? Has it actually been recorded yet? Is there a release date? It was mentioned last year at the time of the Bride Wore Black release. Given the sumptuous recording quality of Bride Wore Black, I can't wait for the release of this haunting score. Will there be a Moooooog?

PS. Am I all alone in my enjoyment of this film? I'm not saying we're in the Hitchcock class here, but it does have some fine performances and memorable haunting scenes that Herrmann serves well...

At least you are not alone in anticipating this great score...

I was wondering if any progress had been made on this myself.

I've never seen the film myself, however Kino will be releasing a 4k restoration of the film at some point, so that will provide a good opportunity to see the film.

It's been on dvd for awhile. It's an underwhelming film with an okay score - the theremin used a couple times as special effect is very annoying and leaves a bad impression. I enjoyed the music in retrospect, apart from the theremin effect and the movie, so I'm looking forward to the re-recording.

Something new on this one? I really hope it's coming soon!

Quartet always have a final batch of the year in December, it could be part of that as was ‘The Bride Wore Black’ last year.

Have Quartet mentioned EN or this clutching at straws, I like the movie its kind of twisted & psychological but simple to understand the ex cast makes that possible. Herrmann's tool-box always good at evoking horror this would get my purchase.

From memory, I recall it was suggested that Quartet were working on a recording of the score.

It's advertised in the booklet for A Bride Wore Black.

I recently inquired about this title in a different Quartet thread. There has been no response to my knowledge, but at least they didn't deny that they are working on the title. Things seem hush-hush at this time.

BRIDE WORE BLACK was announced last December IIRC, so perhaps ENDLESS NIGHT will be announced this coming December? I certainly hope so.

Yes, originally BRIDE and ENDLESS were planned as two scores on one disc, but when it was evident that BRIDE would fill a disc all by itself, they decided to do BRIDE first and ENDLESS second.

Mind you, there was so much negativity about BRIDE, maybe they decided to not bother with ENDLESS.

I hope it's not that.

There was a negative reaction to Quartet's BRIDE WORE BLACK? I had no idea, I think it's an amazing performance and recording of the score, so impressive that I included in an episode of my podcast. I can't imagine what the complaints would be leveled against it.

Here's a very good critical review by Bill Wrobel that gets into the differences between the re-recording and the original: https://www.filmscorerundowns.net/herrmann/bride-wore-black-quartet-records.pdf

I'd say the cue that comes closest to Herrmann's original recording is the "Macabre Waltz."

No, there was not so much negativity on BRIDE, in fact, there was lots of positivity and enthusiasm, so we're very grateful.

Endless Night was recorded on September 9-11, with Fernando as conductor, of course, and sounds great! But it will not be released until February/ March 2020. Fernando is really busy right now and he cannot supervise the mixes until the end of this year.

I and many others will be there to order when this recording goes on sale next year. I hope Quartet will continue doing these new recordings of older scores. May I request that Quartet consider doing Hugo Friedhofer's beautiful score to VERA CRUZ.

I'm VERY happy with THE BRIDE WORE BLACK! Thank you! smile

That's great news about ENDLESS NIGHT! I'm looking forward to it in 2020.

Please keep up the great CD's and ignore the few complainers.

Bride Wore Black was a great recording and my favourite release of last year. Wonderful news about Endless Night. Can't wait...

Good suggestion. I would add Friedhofer's Overture to Joan of Arc....

Good suggestion. I would add Friedhofer's Overture to Joan of Arc....

Why just the Overture? Why not the whole fantastic score?

Would both scores fit on a cd?
