I remember sitting in the theater waiting for it to start and watching previews. Star Trek V's trailer came on and I was so jazzed about that I lost interest in The Last Crusade.

The punchline would be "a few weeks later, I wished I was still watching Indiana Jones." But I loved Star Trek V, so it was just a damned good summer. Indiana Jones, Star Trek, Licence to Kill, Batman, Lethal Weapon 2....and Ghostbusters 2. Hmmm... I don't care, they all ended up in my video library.

I graduated high school in June of '89, and the release of those movies in those listless summer months was like my childhood revisited--a fond adieu to the kinds of movies that meant the world to me growing up.

Then the rot of adulthood set in. I think many of us are only adults because we have to be. LOL

LTK defenders blame.the glut of action films.for its failure.
If it was.any good it still would have had a tough time.

Last Crusade is my favourite. And one of my very favourite scores too.
Perhaps because I was working in the cinema when it came out.
First time I (and the first screening's audience) saw the 'leap of faith' sequence on the big screen (and helped by JW's music) I think a big dopey grin spread across my face at the sheer audacity of the spectacle of it. Looks piffling on the telly now of course. Hey ho.

Right.
Fantastic scene. The whole sequence where he advances to the Grail Room equals anything in the entire series.

I've always wondered how they'd convert the Leap of Faith sequence to 3D big grin ... alas it seems the days of 3D conversion are behind us.

Also, the tank chase was fantastic too! When Spielberg kept cutting from Indy outside of the tank to his father inside the tank. And the scene when they all thought Indy went over the cliff and then Indy walks up behind them and looks too, hilarious!

INDY and DIE HARD really eclipsed BOND in the 80s.
It wasn't until BROSNAN that 007 got his mojo.back.

Raiders is my personal fave of the series, but I consider Last Crusade to be the best. I can't justify it any further than that.

The film is magnificently made (and scored) but it's my least favorite of the 1980's trilogy though I certainly do enjoy watching it.

The film has a certain flatness to it and I always get the impression that Spielberg's heart just wasn't in it. The film also (pardon the pun) goes off a cliff after the tank chase. The end sequence is rather perfunctory and uninvolving. Compare that with Temple of Doom's exhilarating last 35 minutes.

That said, oddly enough, I wouldn't change a thing about it. It's still fun.

Exactly my thoughts...Raiders and Temple Of Doom are four-star classics, while Last Crusade struggles to get up to three stars. It's logy and pokey compared to the non-stop thrills of the previous movies, and has WAY too many scenes where Harrison Ford is made to look like a jackass while he gets berated and one-upped by his elderly father. Plus, the F/X suck. I do enjoy it, but it's by far the weakest of the initial trilogy.

Yeah, the FX are really weak in Crusade. Hardly a shot goes by that doesn't scream blue screen or model. I didn't like them making Indie a jackass as you put it either. Also (sorry Henry!) but the supposed death scene was so lazy and cliched I rolled my eyes.

Raiders is my favorite, I love the cinematography in that film. The high contrast with deep shadows and slightly sepia toned without looking totally color degraded like they do nowadays. It looked and felt like a serial. It had the best action sequences and it's my favorite Indie score.

As much as I love THE LAST CRUSADE, I also think RAIDERS is my favorite, but barely. My favorite action scene in the whole series is the truck chase in RAIDERS, and I loved the opening of the Ark scene at the end. And the warehouse scene is a great ending. And you can't beat the London Syphony orchestra. BTW, which orchestra performed THE LAST CRUSADE score? They were great, but I don't think it was the London Symphony.

9in. Reverse if Solium , I loved DOOM when I saw it in.a theatre but not on laser.disc

It comes across as just a " gross-out" flick with a. couple of great action sequences.

At least he finally learned how to fly. Let's see the Marx Brothers do that! smile

In Temple of Doom, Willie was relegated to the Scooby Doo role: people talking serious matters while she plays with a-chilled a-monkey a-brains...

... which were still funny. LEEMMEE 'LONE! frown
