Hans Zimmer explained why he chose to score DUNE instead of Christopher Nolan's next movie, “‘Dune’ is one of my favorite books from my teenage years and I love Denis Villeneuve, obviously…it’s nice working with, it almost feels like family. I never saw the original ‘Dune’ movie, so I’m coming at this in a fresh way, just from the book. I have to do it, and Chris [Nolan] understands I have to do it. He’s going to be just fine.”

Yeah, I figured Dune was the reason he didn't return to score Nolan's next movie.

If he has passion for the project I would assume the end product will be better than something he did out of a sense of obligation. I enjoyed both INTERSTELLAR and BLADE RUNNER 2049, so I'm looking forward to hearing what he comes up with.

He loves DUNE and never saw the Lynch movie?

And what about his connection to Nolan - not his family anymore?

Nolan wanted to go another way, Zimmer went for Dune.

Can't believe that he never saw Lynch's DUNE. Especially since he loved the books.

Just trying to distance himself from any comparisons to the Toto score. Which is like an early Zimmer score.

Yeah, that makes no sense, zero, sorry I cannot believe he never saw Dune, nope
Rest assured this Dune will be a disaster, a 3 hour pretty mood piece with synths banging me in the head.

The Lynch version of Dune is so awful and was so poorly received on release, it's very likely Zimmer never saw it. I wish I hadn't. razz

Not that it matters if he's seen it.

Hopefully this means Nolan will make a movie that's scored solely by James Newton Howard? I'm not holding my breath though.

I saw Dune in the theater and knew nothing about it before hand. So, yeah.

that would be nice, and it would be nice if Nolan could study how films can truly be spotted, and not covered in music from start to end, sledgehammer style, making his points for him with giant musical exclamation points. He is a talented director, but he has a serious flaw with his scoring

I'm sure he had a great time working with Denis Villeneuve when that other guy did all the work and you just lent him the synthesizer out of your garage.

I wonder if old H 'variations on 2 notes' Z will break a sweat, or continue to mine that same particular goldmine. He even whittled it down to 'one note' for the big emotional scene in the recent X-MEN score.
Hasn't Nolan already tapped Ludwig G to score his new film?

Funny, yes, Zim's has been winnowing his scoring technique down to -bathrobe, house shoes with a his cocktail in his hand.
Sleep scoring

And yes on Ludwig

And yet you came here and posted. Darn ironic, but yes, you and Thor are two peas-in-pod.
He is the master and you are the apprentice.

FYI, Zimmer does not care what you think.

Can't wait for the movie, and I can't wait to see what Zimmer comes up with for the score. The movie should be EPIC, and I have a lot of hope for it.
