Holy moly guacamole...
I already own all the APES scores... all of them... and I am not very much into re-buying the same scores over again for a new mastering.... but I'm afraid I cannot not buy this set. I just cannot let it come and go, I MUST have it. Sheesh... really, there is not anything on these discs I don't have, but still.... also, it might just have better sound, who knows.

I should have known it couldn't be a premiere release of quality like FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON. Lalaland runs true to form. Looking on the bright side, it's money saved.
What a terribly negative presence you often are, whenever you don't get what you want and feel entitled to.
Why even bother posting what you did? I'm sure LLL put a TON of work into making this happen (and no doubt it cost a pretty penny to license the two Goldsmith scores from Varese, especially since they've never done such a thing before)... only to you come in here and complain. I think they're probably even working on From the Earth to the Moon still, to boot, so it must really hurt them to see this kind of comment, especially since you indicate with "true to form" that LLL is *always* disappointing to you. Sheesh.
And these are late 60s/early 70s scores too, so you'd think you might hold off with the disparaging comments. Personally, I'm really glad that Goldsmith's two scores have been given the fresh Mattesino treatment, as I think there was room for sound improvement. The Varese complete release of the original score in particular is over a quarter century old, at this point! And even when it was brand new, it didn't sound as good as the Intrada expansion (which only added The Hunt) from a few years earlier. This is actually a much-needed and much-deserved reissue, and I hope it sells like gangbusters for LLL.
And this is also super exciting because it means that Varese is now willing to license titles they control to other labels. So LLL could maybe collaborate with Varese to give us a premiere release of the film recordings of Rozsa's Eye of the Needle, Elfman's Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, or Horner's Brainstorm! Hell, maybe Kritzerland could give us a complete The Other or David Raksin's magnum opus, Forever Amber (also a Varese-in-perpetuity title)! But if one is too busy being negative because there's no "new" music here in this set, I guess those thoughts might not even occur to them...

I somehow never realized Rosenman did a second Apes score. How does it compare to his first?
In my opinion... it is sooooooo much better, at least as a listening experience. Tom Servo is spot on in his assessment.
This is an impressive release though, I also have the previous releases but the only scores I ever return to in the series are the Goldsmith ones as I think the others are pretty much unlistenable. But again, an exciting release.
If you haven't tried Rosenman's Battle for the Planet of the Apes, give the sound clips a shot. It's like night and day compared with his first Apes score, which I personally *do* find pretty unlistenable. It was a big surprise to me when I picked up the FSM disc for completist purposes. Very, very listenable and even enjoyable.

P.S. to cody -- we've been over this before. Yes, we do have freedom of speech in the United States (though not necessarily at film music forums, which have their own rules, I'd point out!) From the Constitution, haha. The first ten Amendments to that *are* the Bill of Rights BTW, but of course you only need the very first Amendment out of those, in terms of covering free speech.
But simply being *able* to say something doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do, and I have just as much freedom of speech to declare that you're being extremely rude and negative with your comments here. Freedom of speech to say something stupid/rude/inconsiderate does not include freedom from anyone else exercising *their* freedom of speech to make their own judgements/observations about what you have said. It's funny how many free speech advocates I've seen like yourself who think that freedom only applies to them, but not to others who disagree with them.
