MONDAY, JULY 8

MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL---new trailer released for the sequel.

LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0OFH4xpPr4

MULAN---trailer released for the reboot movie.

LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01ON04GCwKs

GHOSTBUSTERS 2020---Ernie Hudson hinted he is returning for the reboot movie, “I’m glad that Jason Reitman, Ivan Reitman’s son, is gonna be directing and producing this movie, and writing it. And he was a kid when we were doing the other movies, in fact, he’s in the second movie, so I know there’s a love for the movie. He’s an amazing filmmaker, and I think he’s gonna take it to a whole other level. So as we move into the future, I’m just really excited that he’s gonna give the fans what they’ve been looking for. I think the last movie with the ladies, it was a good movie and enjoyable, but it wasn’t quite what a lot of the fans wanted. I think this will be more in line with the original GHOSTBUSTERS, so I’m excited about it.”

THE LORD OF THE RINGS---Russell Crowe talked about turning down the Aragorn role which offered $100 million, “I didn’t think Peter Jackson actually wanted me on. Because I think he was forced into talking to me, because there was a moment in time when everyone wanted me in everything. He’s a fellow New Zealander, and I can hear his voice. And so I’m talking to him on the phone, and it is like, I don’t think he even knows what I have done. I just knew that… my instinct was that he had somebody else in mind, which turned out to be Viggo [Mortensen], and he should be allowed to hire the actor that he wants.”

THE LITTLE MERMAID---Halle Bailey (GROWN-ISH) will play Ariel in the Walt Disney live-action remake movie.
Disney subsidiary Freeform replied to critics who pointed out the original character was Danish, not black, "Yes. The original author of The Little Mermaid was Danish. Ariel...is a mermaid. She lives in an underwater kingdom in international waters and can legit swim wherever she wants (even though that often upsets King Triton, absolute zaddy)...But for the sake of argument, let's say that Ariel, too, is Danish. Danish mermaids can be black because Danish *people* can be black. Ariel can sneak up to the surface at any time with her pals Scuttle and the *ahem* Jamaican crab Sebastian (sorry, Flounder!) and keep that bronze base tight. Black Danish people, and this mer-folk, can also *genetically* (!!!) have red hair."
Freeform added, "But spoiler alert - bring it back to the top - the character of Ariel is a work of fiction. So after all this is said and done, and you still cannot get past the idea that choosing the incredible, sensational, highly-talented, gorgeous Halle Bailey is anything other than the INSPIRED casting that it is because she 'doesn't look like the cartoon one,' oh boy, do I have some news for you...about you."

DRACULA---photo released of Claes Bang starring in the BBC/Netflix vampire series.

DC COMICS---Christopher McQuarrie commented on rumors he was involved in rebooting either MAN OF STEEL or GREEN LANTERN, “Green Lantern was a written proposal. Superman was a pitch… It [the Green Lantern proposal] tied into the Superman movie that [Henry] Cavill and I were proposing. No takers. The studios have never cared for my original ideas. They prefer that I fix their broken ones… They never said no. They just never moved on it. This was just before Fallout was released. And no, I would not reconsider. There’s too many other things I want to do…. I must tell you, the possibility of my doing a superhero movie is remote in the extreme.”

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS---Daisy Ridley said she almost quit the movie during a panic attack when filming first started, "It was pretty horrid. It was really scary. I felt just sick and I didn't really know anyone yet...It takes me a really long time to settle down with people... and there were loads of people there and somebody had an umbrella over me and even that, like, 'Oh someone's holding an umbrella over you? OK (sic).'"
She added, "I remember thinking, 'I can't do it'. Like, I can't do this, this is not right."

FAST & FURIOUS 9---Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren will be returning for the latest sequel.

JOKER---director Todd Phillips commented on the movie's connection to the comic books, “We didn’t follow anything from the comic-books, which people are gonna be mad about. We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becoming Joker. It’s about this man.”

SAW---Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock will star in the the reboot movie based on an idea by Rock.

SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME---director Jon Watts said if he was directing the next Spider-Man movie, he wants Kraven to be the villain, “Oh, I would love Kraven. It’s just the trick of how do you do Kraven in a movie?” However, Sony Pictures is reportedly developing a Kraven solo movie to be written by Richard Wenk (THE EQUALIZER).

DARK PHOENIX---FORBES projects that DARK PHOENIX will be a bigger flop than 2015's FANTASTIC FOUR. DARK PHOENIX might earn up to $250 million versus a $200 million budget which is a 1.39 earn ratio. FANTASTIC FOUR earned $168 million versus a $120 million budget which is a 1.4 earn ratio.

THE EXPENDABLES---Sylvester Stallone hinted a new sequel might be underway when he posted, “All of those July 4th Fireworks got my mind going! I am starting to cook up the next adventure” along with a photo of him as Barney Ross from THE EXPENDABLES.

HERCULES---Alexander Skarsgard is rumored to be a candidate to star in the Walt Disney live-action remake of its 1997 HERCULES animated movie.

BRIGHTBURN---James Gunn said a sequel to the horror movie is being discussed, "...we’re talking about the sequel.”

gen: LOCK---Michael B. Jordan, Maisie Williams and David Tennant provide the voices in this Adult Swim mecha-anime animated tv series set 50 years in the future where a team uses weaponized neuroscience to combat an evil force that threatens mankind.

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
Veteran character actor Burt Kwouk is best remembered as Inspector Jacques Clouseau's manservant, Cato Fong, in the Pink Panther movie series. Kwouk also appeared in three James Bond movies. He played Mr. Ling in GOLDFINGER, SPECTRE's Number Three in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE and a Chinese general in the original CASINO ROYALE.

Ariel (AKA Disney’s Littler Mermaid) was designed by animator Glen Keane and he modeled the character after his ginger haired wife and a few other sources.

Ariel is a famous beloved fictional character who is light skinned and ginger haired. That's the character and she’s been presented and merchandised continually that way for 30 years on everything from backpacks, toothbrushes, bed sheets, T-shirts, pj's, figurines, dolls, party supplies, ornaments, storybooks, music CD's, etc, etc.

Turning the character black is as idiotic as turning SHAFT into a light skinned ginger. Or as offensive as turning Tiana into a light skin ginger.

And if you want to toss out the diversity card, gingers are only 2 percent of the population so drastically changing the character is discrimination against the largest minority group.

Their argument is total bullshit to push an agenda and create controversy.

I demand equality. Ariel should be a short fat white guy who is bald. Until we break the mermaid sex ceiling, we'll never have equality. ;-)

Disney is a nutshell for the last ten or so years. They walked down a path singing zippity doo-dah and just lost their way and never came back.

Yet there are several people who is fine with the possibility of James Bond being played by a black actor in a future 007 film. Ok, I am not fine with that so I personally agree with you but I just had to write this.

Do you mean mermaids, or both mermaids and mermen?

My only concern about casting musicals like Little Mermaid is that directors cast people who can actually sing, so I went into youtube and listened to Halle Bailey. She has a lovely voice.

I just hope that Spielberg has also cast real singers in West Side Story.

BTW: how did the recent Disney DUMBO remake do?
It seems to have come and gone.
I had no interest in seeing it, and didn’t.

That was my only concern, can she ACT mostly, then can she sing? She can sing, her acting is in the air for now I guess? But I won't see the movie anyway, these Disney remakes annoy me big grin

And I am one of those who would love Idris Elba as Bond. For me, hell yes. He has class, style and for me, buckets of charisma . Daniel Craig as Bond started out great but aside from Casino Royale...meh. Hell I'D make a great Bond...as long as there isn't a lot or running and jumping and we can get a tie in with Arby's.

Barbara Broccoli has gone on record that - as far as casting - 007 will remain "as written." While she specifically meant "male," this could also mean race as well. So Idris Elba is out, even if he was interested, which he doesn't seem to be. He is also currently 46 years old, which means he'd be around 50 by the time the next film even began production. That's a bit old for starting as 007.

I think it's time we let the "Idris Elba as Bond" Train leave the station.

Can't say her singing voice is all that great. Sounds labored to me. She'll be auto-tuned to death anyways. Jodi Benson is the voice of Ariel and that can't be replaced.

Sorry, Ernie Hudson, but Jason Reitman can't give the fans what we want. Harold Ramis is dead.

That would have made an okay argument, Ernie, if Shane Black hadn't just given us that awful Predator sequel recently.

Is it actually known that Disney's remaking Hercules or is this just random speculation? Cause last I checked, the most they're doing with Hercules at the moment is adapting it for the stage.
