I was watching a movie on the SyFi channel last night and there were like a million f@cks NOT bleeped out! I didn't know that was the norm on commercial television nowadays. Is it?

It's getting more common on basic cable. It's still forbidden on broadcast TV.

Yep, the point is that the FCC only regulates over-the-air TV and radio channels. Cable channels have no such regulatory oversight when it comes to profanity, nudity, etc. Past practice had most basic cable channels following the general practice for broadcast channels, but things have been changing - just look at AMC shows over the past decade.

By the way, usually the profanity issue for broadcast channels is activated only upon complaints from listeners/viewers.

I don't know if anyone saw the live ABC broadcast re-creating episodes of "All In the Family" and "The Jeffersons" on May 22nd. They re-created the very first episode of "The Jeffersons." In that episode, the "N-word" was said twice, but was bleeped out. A week later, I watched the actual first episode of "The Jeffersons" on a basic cable channel. The "N-word" was said twice and was NOT bleeped out, just as it was not censored when that episode originally aired on CBS on 18 January 1975. We've come a long way since then.

Just another reason why I cut the cord.

I have two Amazon Fire Sticks and a Recast.

I watch more TV now than I ever did.

I couldn’t be happier with the Amazon system:-)
