Gotta say the obligatory first: Don't care for the genre (or rather, what it has become....I was a fan as a kid and teenager in the 80s and 90s), and don't care for the scores. So while I can easily rattle off great superhero scores from the 70s, 80s and 90s, the 2000s and 2010s offer far more difficulty. I agree with your choice of KICK-ASS, at least for the most part. That goes for most scores in this period as well -- might be one or two tracks I enjoy, but rarely the album as a whole. So after perusing an IMDB list of genre scores in this period, I couldn't find a SINGLE ONE I liked overall. Amazing. But some with a few individual great moments include DEADPOOL, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 1 and 2, MAN OF STEEL, THOR, HULK, SPIDER-MAN....

Using a list of 2000's superhero films... "Unbreakable" is my pick. Worth follow up titles: "The Incredibles" "X-Men" What a bad decade for superhero film scores!

Kev you list Elfman's Hellboy II but not Beltrami's original Hellboy score? That one's even better, IMO! My pick is probably JNH's Unbreakable. Really wish he'd gotten the Batman trilogy to score solo. Favorite Marvel scores are Christophe Beck's. Yavar

I actually like a lot more than I'm told I'm supposed to. Since the topic is Score and not Theme (otherwise Captain America wins in a walk): (Not especially in order) The Incredibles Man of Steel (come at me) Doctor Strange Spider-Man Homecoming Thor Iron Man 3 X-Men

Overall favorites in order: Hellboy - Beltrami X2 - Ottman X-Men First Class - Jackman X-Men The Last Stand - Powell Marvel MCU favorites no order: Captain America The First Avenger Doctor Strange Thor Ragnarok And the Jackman Captain America scores are growing on me. But best overall mix of score and songs in any superhero movie since 2000 has gotta be Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Just brilliant, like everything else in this film. (Black Panther excellent as well, but not so much connection with the characters, which is what makes Spider-Verse the winner.)

If I'm picking one then it's Horner's The Amazing Spider-man. Yes. Really fine work!
