From Roger: "Intrada revisits an earlier Special Collection release that sold out practically overnight. New master elements were found so the program was rebuilt from the ground up and features better sound. Neat score from the early '70s will be nice to have back in circulation. While interest lasts of course."

Something by Jerry Fielding?

"Neat" score? Suggests something small-scale.
"Neat" isn't a word I'd normally expect to see describing a western or horror score.
Maybe a "neat little thriller score"?

Thought it might be "Emperor of the North" (1973; slash "Caprice"), but looking at the Intrada forum, that was around for a month or so.

Oooooh...my favorite Fielding score Lawman is from 1971. I'm pretty sure Intrada's release of that was a really fast sell-out, though I might be remembering wrong.

Lawman fits all 3 clues. Early Special Collection title, early 70s title, on the list of composers Roger said was coming this year

An update to the list: Joel McNeely, John Barry, Jerry Goldsmith, Basil Poledouris (maybe...no promises yet), Bill Conti, John Williams, James Horner, Hugo Friedhofer, Bruce Broughton, Craig Safan, Chris Young, Lalo Schifrin, Sylvester Levay, Richard Band, Laurence Rosenthal, Jerry Fielding, Bear McCreary, Randy Edelman, possibly Frank DeVol and more! And sometimes more than one by these composers! This includes some world premieres, reissues, expansions...a little of everything.

Well damn. I've cherished my rare Lawman album for years and refused to part with it. Now I kinda wish I had, if a newer better sounding edition is coming, because as my favorite Fielding score I expect I'll have to have it!

Nothing by JF sells out fast!

Ummm...WHAT? I'm pretty sure that back in the days of their strict 1000/1500 copy issues, Intrada regularly sold out of Jerry Fielding releases quickly.

Oh, I thought up another possibility because I think I remember it selling out really fast -- The Nightcomers, also 1971 and also Fielding!

Scorpio?

I wouldn't use the word "neat" to describe the music for Lawman or The Nightcomers.

Neat, like groovy or dandy or swell or "bad" or whatever, is a term that is lacking in specificty and reflective primarily of a favorable impression or opinion of something on the part of its user. I have no trouble referring to any score I like (say, even BEN-HUR) as "neat." I won't be surprised to see a Jerry Fielding release on Tuesday -- most of those mentioned sold out pretty quickly as I recall, and went for $80 or more in the after-market once they sold out.

Yeah and I'm pretty sure I remember both Lawman and The Nightcomers sold out very quickly, though I don't remember if they sold out in a single day.

Scorpio sold out in a day IIRC.

But re: Scorpio we'd all have to get into an involved discussion about whether 1973 is "early 70s" haha!

Personally I was sympathetic to the person who argued for symmetry:

1970
1971
1972 are "early 70s"

the same number of years as how

1977
1978
1979 are "late 70s"

and therefore the "mid-70s" are the four year span in between:

1973
1974
1975
1976

THE ORGANIZATION, perhaps? From Doug's "tech talk" on the original release page:

For our premiere presentation of the score, we embarked on a search that led us to partial master elements from both MGM as well as the estate of the late composer. Complete session elements no longer existed from either party, however our efforts did yield crisp, clean ¼” two-track stereo masters offering just under a half hour of music, roughly edited and including most of the major set pieces—as if an album had already been planned.

THE KREMLIN LETTER might also be a possibility.

Kremlin Letter took a looong time to sell out. The Organization seems a good guess, but Melle not mentioned in that list of composers (which proves nothing). I myself wondered about The Andromeda Strain, though it sounds pretty darn good as is.

I had hopes that the mention of Fielding in that list could finally be The Outlaw Josey Wales or a CD premiere and not a re-release. But an expanded edition for The Organization would be outstanding. That's a "neat" score. smile

You will not be seeing a release (expanded or LP program) of Outlaw Josey Wales anytime in the near future.
