...and insult to injury they never finish that sentence, "Just not me."
There is actually a sociological theory which posits that certain women - because they will associate negative male behavior with past failed relationships - will form female-to-female-like friendship bonds when they meet a "nice" guy - because they have no previous experience with a romantic relationship with someone who is not a jerk.
