Continuing SEASON 4:

"Oxford Gray"
By: Richard Markowitz
https://ok.ru/video/3149313018554

Highlights:
  • 0:33 in.^
  • 6:57 in.^
  • 16:19 in.^
  • 22:37 in.^
  • 38:56 in.^

And a few years later he retired, puttered around, then started McDowell's.

From here on in, the rest of these updates are Markowtiz and Shores only.

    (NtM: 10:31)

    "Trial Board"
    By: Richard Markowitz
    https://ok.ru/video/3149313084090

    Highlights:
  • 10:01 in. Percussion, steady cymbal tap, and brass over.^
  • 26:52 in.^
  • 34:03 in.^
  • 42:50 in.^
  • 44:03 in.^

Not much score in the episode, but what there is, is almost all good.

The producers really liked Joe Santos apparently, as they used him multiple times (each time playing a different cop character). In fact, he was JUST IN an episode two episodes back! He had a number of roles before the series, but all bit parts. It was only with this show his career suddenly took off. Around this time he started out of "The Rockford Files" and was on it all the way to the last season.

Oh, and once again Dana Elcar was continuing his acting career playing authority figure roles. Once again in such a role (a police trial board prosecutor).

    "Spitfire"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3149311969978

    Highlights:
  • 0:50/2:00 in.^
  • 8:30 in.^
  • 23:51 in.^

I'm not sure how much original scoring -- if any -- is in this episode.

22:21 in: tracked from the Immel-scored episode.

37:57 in: most or all of this is tracked from the Immel-scored episode.

44:33 in: pretty sure this is tracked.

    Continuing SEASON 4:

    "Nightmare on a Sunday Morning"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3149312690874

    Highlights:
  • 2:02 in.^
  • 14:57 in.^
  • 23:55 in. Probably tracked from the Immel-scored episode.^
  • 32:57 in. Might also be by Immel.^
  • 35:34 in.^
  • 44:42 in.^

    Poorly-handled rape episode.

For the guys here: 8:57 in. You're welcome.

38:05 in: I'm sure this is tracked from another episode.

    "The Malflores"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3149312363194

    Highlights:
  • 1:07 in.
  • 4:44 in.^
  • 6:43 in.^
  • 9:57 in.^
  • 13:02 in.
  • 28:31 in. The funky/disco source cue.^(29:43)
  • 30:05 in.^
  • 33:42 in.^

20:39 in: pretty sure this is tracked.

42:13 in: most or all should be from the Immel-scored episode. Begins with Immel.

    "The Blue Fog"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3149312232122

    Highlights:
  • 0:29 in.^
  • 20:29 in.^
  • 38:43 in.^
  • 41:44 in.^

7:24 in: the music for the fake movie being played, is score by Goldsmith from season one (it's on the CD).

14:40 in: pretty sure this is tracked.

44:50 in: pretty sure that is also tracked.

For the guys here: 18:22 in. You're welcome.

    Concluding SEASON 4:

    "Hard Rock Brown"
    By: Richard Markowitz
    https://ok.ru/video/3149313149626

    Highlights:
  • 1:49 in.^
  • 9:25 in.^
  • 13:41 in.^
  • 21:59 in.^
  • 25:33 in.^
  • 30:00 in.^
  • 32:23 in. This might be tracked.^
  • 36:52 in. With sleigh bells.^
  • 38:48 in.^

    Ricardo Mantalban guest stars.

    5:19 in: airplane porn.

    "End of the Line"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3149312559802

    Highlights:
  • 3:44 in.^
  • 22:03 in.^
  • 28:46 in. Funky cue with percussion punctuated by staccato brass clusters. Given the cue cuts off while still going, it's probably tracked.^
  • 32:18 in.^
  • 38:01 in.^
  • 39:01 in.^
  • 41:10 in.^

Man, this show has seriously de-evolved from what it was in season one and most of season two. This episode is skippable time-wasting garbage.

25:12 in: pretty sure this is tracked.

    (NtM: 24:17)

    "Ice Time"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3149311838906

    Highlights:
  • 33:35 in.^
  • 39:35 in.

There's barely any score in the episode, and half of it is comprised of source cues. On a set of season four scoring, I'd only keep the first cited cue.

41:01 in: pretty sure that is tracked from a prior Shores effort.

    "The Six Foot Stretch"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3149312101050

    Highlights:
  • 1:14 in.^
  • 4:54 in. About 5:53 in it switches to Immel.^
  • 12:50 in.^
  • 25:35 in.^
  • 35:27 in. Sounds like something by Drasnin.^

17:11/32:46 in: should be tracked from "Violent Homecoming".

30:42 in: should be from Immel's one episode.

    "He's very seriously dead."
    (as opposed to regular dead?)

    "Prime Rib"
    By: Richard Markowitz
    https://ok.ru/video/3149312166586

    Highlights:
  • 4:16 in.
  • 10:20 in.^
  • 11:57 in.^
  • 14:35 in.^
  • 16:24 in.
  • 25:31 in.^
  • 27:59 in.^
  • 34:59 in.^
  • 38:50 in.^

32:41 in: pretty sure that is tracked.

For the guys here: 0:00 in. You're welcome. The full scene starts 31:19 into the episode.
    And 1:18 in.
    And 40:05 in.

Lord, season four just never recovered. Bad.

    Continuing SEASON 5:

    "Trigger Point (Part I)"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3153928915642

    Highlights:
  • 0:49 in.
  • 8:19/9:06 in.^
  • 13:04 in.^
  • 22:29 in.^
  • 33:01 in.^
  • 39:41 in.^(open/40:19/)

Maybe guest star David Jassen can save this episode...

25:39 in: I don't know off hand if that is tracked from another episode or part of what ever is playing on the TV.

I have no idea what western movie is playing at 35:28 in. Sounds like the score is from the actual movie and not new material.

Trivia: This two-parter was remade as a "Police Story" TV movie titled "The Watch Commander". TV movies will be covered after I am done with the series episodes [available].

45:40 in: Lord -- the new end credits arrangement opens like a Nintendo 64 video game!

    "Trigger Point (Part II)"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3153928522426

    Highlights:
  • 0:42 in.^
  • 2:55 in.^
  • 13:09 in.^
  • 16:44 in.^
  • 35:45 in.^(parts)
  • 42:51 in.^
  • 43:38 in.^

On top of Jassen, this one also has Meg Foster and Don Johnson. Diana Muldaur is in both parts as well.

    (NtM: 6:27)

    "Stigma (Part I)"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3153929177786

    Highlights:
  • 5:57 in.^
  • 8:01 in.^
  • 13:18/39:05 in.^
  • 42:11 in.^
  • 45:05 in.^

Also guest starring a young John de Lancie.

37:37 in: should be partially from "Violent Homecoming".

    (NtM: 34:20)

    "Stigma (Part II)"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3153928981178

    Highlights:
  • 1:27 in.
  • 7:51 in.^
  • 18:53 in. I don't know what was so special about this scene, but the action music seems more robust and involved than usual. This is really a good and cool piece of action music. Going to be nice to have this one day. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 25:52 in.
  • 32:01 in.
  • 33:55 in.^
  • 39:38/42:51 in.^

This second part represents one of -- in my opinion -- Shores best efforts for the whole series.

    Continuing SEASON 5:

    "River of Promises"
    By: Richard Markowitz
    https://ok.ru/video/3153928456890

    Highlights:
  • 2:12 in.^
  • 13:07 in.
  • 28:41 in. The source cue.
  • 31:05 in.^
  • 32:39 in.
  • 34:25 in.^
  • 36:52 in.^

This two-parter represents the ninth and tenth final appearance of Joe Santos as yet another cop on the show. Probably due in part to the show ending shortly thereafter. In the "Police Story" universe, had it gone on for more years, he'd probably have played half the cops in the country. Too bad this is crap and he's barely in it.

"Take a week off and grow a beard or something ethnic."
(sooo ... ahhhh ... what else can a guy "grow" that he doesn't already have that is ethnic anyway?)

"Day of Terror, Night of Fear (Part I)"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://ok.ru/video/3153928194746

    Highlights:
  • 0:39 in.^
  • 3:13 in. I think this is that action cue from "Stigman: Part II", edited up. I think the cue that comes after it, after one or two seconds, is also from that episode.^
  • 8:09 in.
  • 12:17 in.^
  • 14:15 in.^
  • 23:47 in.
  • 28:30 in.^
  • 45:11 in. Based on the editing, this might be tracked.^

I'm not sure how much original scoring -- if any -- is in this episode.

30:02 in: pretty sure this is tracked Markowtiz material. Maybe from "The Man in the Shadows".

33:43 in: pretty sure this is Immel.

44:03 in: I think this is tracked.

"Day of Terror, Night of Fear (Part II)"

  • 27:34 in. The funky source music cue.^
  • 33:06 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 41:26 in. More funky source music.^
  • 44:09 in.^

2:13 in: should be tracked from "Violent Homecoming".

    Highlights:
  • 0:59 in.^
  • 9:52 in. At a certain point it sounds like it cuts to score from "Violent Homecoming".^
  • 21:10 in.^
  • 30:22 in.^
  • 36:25 in. Short intro cue.^
  • 42:17 in.^

Dennis Weaver guest stars. And he's partnered with ... Robert Culp

    Part 1: https://ok.ru/video/3153928391354
    Part 2: https://ok.ru/video/3153928784570

A lot of songs credited, including one titled "Spank Your Thing".

"Confessions of a Lady Cop (Part I)"
    By: Richard Markowitz
    https://ok.ru/video/3153929374394

    Continuing: TV MOVIES:

    "Cop Killer" (1988)
    By: Dennis McCarthy
    https://ok.ru/video/3154005396154

This is the only effort by McCarthy for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 1:32 in. Briefly contains the Goldsmith theme.^
  • 3:02 in. Also uses the Goldsmith theme.
  • 14:12 in. Bumper cue using Goldsmith's theme (two more bumper cues at 1:05:52). and.^
  • 19:41 in.^
  • 27:08 in.
  • 32:45 in.^
  • 38:10 in.
  • 49:01 in. Action material, but not quite what you think.^
  • 1:01:50 in.^
  • 1:04:17 in.
  • 1:12:47 in.
  • 1:21:31 in.^
  • 1:26:46 in.^
  • 1:34:19 in. Cue closes out with the Goldsmith theme. I'm not citing the end credits as a highlight, but if you want to hear a light rock arrangement of the Goldsmith theme, it follows this cue (the end credits music).^

Even though I cited many cues, I'd only include probably half of this on a set of TV movies scoring.
    Composer credit: 3:22 in.

Remake of the season five episode "Stigma".
The whole TV movie is off. It doesn't look or feel like the TV series, it has a general uncertainty all about it, the score -- while not bad -- just feels off and not right for the TV movie.

    "He's just a kid!"
"That "kid" would have blown you away!"

    Continuing TV MOVIES:

    "Gladiator School" (1988)
    By: Sylvester Levay
    https://ok.ru/video/3154005527226

This is the only effort by Levay for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 14:39/22:38 in. Bumper cue follows the second cue (the bumper repeats twice, once with dialogue, and again with just music)^
  • 25:02 in.^
  • 40:55 in.^
  • 43:33 in. Bumper cue.^
  • 46:40/48:36 in.^
  • 50:33 in.^
  • 1:08:42 in.
  • 1:11:27 in. Bumper cue.^
  • 1:12:10 in.^
  • 1:24:46 in.
  • 1:31:35 in.
  • 1:33:56 in.
  • 1:35:17 in. The end credits music.^

Levay provides a mostly electronic score which while just wrong for the TV movie, is enjoyable on its own merits. Don't expect anything sophisticated or remarkable, just expect to enjoy it.

Remake of the season five two-part episode "The Broken Badge" (Richard Markowtiz). And it pales in comparison to the original episode. Fill-in-the-black actor is no measure to Claude Akins.

    "The Watch Commander" (1988)
    By: Alf Clausen
    https://ok.ru/video/3154005461690

This is the only effort by Clausen for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 19:27 in.^
  • 21:53 in.^
  • 26:35 in.^
  • 39:01 in.^
  • 41:00 in.^
  • 44:38 in. Two different bumper cues.^
  • 1:12:06 in. Bumper cue.^
  • 1:17:36 in.^
  • 1:36:34 in.^

On a set of TV movie scores, I'd only take away a few cues. It's nearly all synth and in cheap and not particularly interesting ways. Surely amongst his lesser works.

Remake of the season five episode two-parter "Trigger Point" (Richard Shores). This TV movie ends like most episodes of the series did: silence on a still frame with police radio chatter heard.

    (Note to Me: 13:42, 43:50, 51:50 / composer credit: 4:42 in)

    Finishing TV MOVIES:

"Monster Manor" (1988) (final TV movie)
    By: John Lurie
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l9LVFpquPA
    (no ok.ru link found)

This is the only effort by Lurie for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 2:51 in.^
  • 20:29 in.^
  • 45:55 in.^
  • 1:33:00 in.^

There's very little scoring in this TV movie. On a set of TV movies scoring I'm not sure any of this needs to be included. This score is entirely wrong for the TV movie, sounds nothing like a score for a police drama, barely services the picture, and quite frankly, should have been rejected. Given how synth heavy the TV movie scores were and that they were all recycled scripts (probably cheaper than having an entirely new script), I don't think there was a budget to get a new score.

Remake of a season four episode by the same name (couldn't even be bothered to re-name it) that was scored by Dick DeBenedictis.

For the guys here: 1:13:00 in. You're welcome.

And this concludes "Police Story". We went from Jerry Goldsmith and his excellent work, to this -- the second worst score of the whole thing.

(NtM: composer credit -- 3:27 in)
